Owner description: Prague Zoological Garden is situated near the center of the Czech capital, in a unique rugged landscape on the bank of the Vltava River. It opened in 1931 and during its existence of more than 80 years it has risen to become one of the most prestigious zoos in the world. Today, it is the second most visited tourist destination in the Czech Republic, just after Prague Castle. 4,600 animals and 680 species live in Prague Zoo. You can explore 12 pavilions and 150 exhibits over 58 hectares. The kids will love the Bororo Reserve, chairlift, mini-train, observation tower, paddling pool and Children’s Zoo. The pride of the zoo is its Elephant Valley, home to a sizeable herd of Asian elephants. The Giant Salamander House, where you can see the largest amphibians in the world – the critically endangered Chinese Giant Salamanders – is extraordinary as well; and the African House with an adjacent vast meadow inhabited by herds of antelopes and giraffes is worth your attention, too.

I'm not sure, but according to time spent there, it's the biggest zoo in Europe! 5 hours flew by and we didn't visit everything!!! It's better to plan one-day-staying in the Zoo and spring-summer visit is preferred (I was there in late autumn and quite all birds and monkeys were in cages).

Had a great time at the Zoo. Lots of variety of animals, and very family friendly. I hear it one of the bigger Zoos in Europe. It took two modes of transportation to get there that is the only negative I have about the over all experience.

We are children of any age - you will like it! It's the biggest zoo in Europe. It takes all day! I recommend the eating joint near with owls - nice place. St. Martin's menu was delicious.

I make a point of visiting zoos whenever possible, so was excited about the Prague Zoo. I enjoyed it but found it a bit disappointing.

To get there by public transport, take a Metro (red) to Nadrazi Holesovice, which is a Metro/Bus station, and take the Bus #112 to the end.

The grounds of the zoo are very nice, although it is rather confusing to walk around and there are several areas under construction. There are supposed to be some trams for internal transport, but they were not operation while we were there.

Most of the exhibit areas are reasonably spacious, but it was difficult to see some of the animals and it appeared that a number were empty. There were some indoor areas with fruit bats, etc. One of the indoor areas appeared to have mice in several of the glass enclosed cages that were eating the food left for the exhibited animals. These mice were multiplying and one hopes that they will be removed before the animals become overrun.

If you have extra time and enjoy zoos it is worth a visit, but I would not put this on the list of my top zoos. It might be somewhat better in the summer when more animals are out and more things are open.
