Owner description: The most significant square of historical Prague, it was founded in the 12th century and has been witness to many historical events. In addition to the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the square is dominated by the Baroque Church of St Nicholas, the Rococo Kinský Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the monument to Jan Hus. In the pavement of the square are memorial stones marking the execution of 27 Czech lords in 1621, and the Prague meridian.

Quick review here...just a fantastic atmosphere coming up to xmas.. the smells of roasted chestnuts.. plenty of traditional food, lots to buy and very cheap indeed.. lots to see and experience here in the old town of Prague. Just a short walk around and see lots of art shops and plenty of glass workings, crystal and garnet.
Cheap flights..and accommodation for 4 nights..a lovely break. Come and enjoy it here!

Definitely make sure you go here. It's a the tourist centre of town, and has a real buzz about it. The Christmas markets were fun, and not too packed.

Astronomical clock is here, as are lots of tour guides touting for business.

I visited the Old Town from 3rd to 6th December for its Christmas markets.
The atmosphere was lively, with festivities in the air. The market was lovely too- with stalls selling hot mulled wine, honey wine, chimney cakes, chocolates, sausages and much more. In the evening, there were also choirs singing carols and kids doing plays on the stage that was set up near the huge Christmas tree.
The astronomical clock is a stone's throw away. Every hour people would crowd up to see the clock's works.
Right next to the clock tower is the tourist centre. It has all the brochures- state opera, breweries tour, music concerts... you can find it all out here. It has a washroom too.
The people at the centre were helpful too, with the directions as well as bookings that I made to a Mozart concert at the Municipal House.
I would strongly recommend to everybody to buy tickets to the top of the tower (about 110 czk koruna). The views one gets from the top are simply mind-blowing. Just like in the movies, just like in the postcards! Your camera will run out, but the photo opportunities won't!
There is also a lane nearby, inside which you can find a nice place to convert your Euros to koruna without commission.
There are lot of good eateries, pubs and bars nearby. Do walk from here to the Charles Bridge. The route is lined with souvenir shops. Do buy carefully after visiting at least 5-6 shops.

The Old Town square is a fabulous part of Prague. It is quite stunning. The whole square is alive with activity and the buildings are superb. Highlight of course is the town hall with its astronomical clock and the tower but the other architecture round about definitely has the wow factor. We were there early December when the glorious Christmas tree was lit up in all it's finery and the Christmas stalls were doing brisk trade. Various other lights around the square made the whole place magical.
