I visited the Old Town from 3rd to 6th December for its Christmas markets.
The atmosphere was lively, with festivities in the air. The market was lovely too- with stalls selling hot mulled wine, honey wine, chimney cakes, chocolates, sausages and much more. In the evening, there were also choirs singing carols and kids doing plays on the stage that was set up near the huge Christmas tree.
The astronomical clock is a stone's throw away. Every hour people would crowd up to see the clock's works.
Right next to the clock tower is the tourist centre. It has all the brochures- state opera, breweries tour, music concerts... you can find it all out here. It has a washroom too.
The people at the centre were helpful too, with the directions as well as bookings that I made to a Mozart concert at the Municipal House.
I would strongly recommend to everybody to buy tickets to the top of the tower (about 110 czk koruna). The views one gets from the top are simply mind-blowing. Just like in the movies, just like in the postcards! Your camera will run out, but the photo opportunities won't!
There is also a lane nearby, inside which you can find a nice place to convert your Euros to koruna without commission.
There are lot of good eateries, pubs and bars nearby. Do walk from here to the Charles Bridge. The route is lined with souvenir shops. Do buy carefully after visiting at least 5-6 shops.
