Hard slog to the top walking, hot and hundreds of steps and...... that's after the hill from Charles Bridge So I'd recommend tour of city hop on off ....let a bus do the work. Stunning view from the top. Queues too long for castle tour so skipped that.

Thank andrea m

If you visit recommend taking a knowledgeable guide (which we did through a tour) as there is so much history in the backstory of this place. Should be visited on every trip.

Prague Castle is a complex of many old palaces (some of which are housing national parliament / Czech Government offices), the beautiful St. Vitus Cathedral, a garden, and numerous other old building that are 200 to 600 years old.
The Castle can be approached from two directions, one the main entrance and the other from the side of Black Tower. Both places you will have to get in a long queue and to through a body search before entering the area.
If you want to see the Castle complex in detail, a whole day will be needed. Houses numerous museums and few classy restaurants established in old palaces and buildings. All museums inside the complex have separate entry tickets.

We happened to go on a tour the day after a UK bombing and security was very strict. Queued for over an hour to get into the castle and really didnt see that much as we were due on a river cruise. What we did see was lovely but didnt see enough to give a true review. Perhaps tour company could try the lower entrance as froom what we could gather , the queue was somewhat smaller

This is a very large castle with many tours. You need to allow time to see it all if you can. I think it is best if you take the walkigng tour on you own.
