If you plan to see everything at one go be sure to take a lunch-break halfway to get some rest. Also make sure to have good solid walking shoes as the streets and courtyards are cobblestoned.

The site is beautiful and obviously very important but we were provided only with a tiny map on the back of our ticket, access to limited sites (we opted for circuit B for 250 krone each) and I was a bit taken aback by the amount of souvenir shops and cafes around. It was super crowded (the line to enter the cathedral was crazy) and overall I didn't really get a feel for how important the site actually is.

If you only had time to do one thing in Prague, then this is it. The cost was reasonable, but there was so much to see and do. Lots of different buildings , and information about the history. You can get lots of great pics of around the castle grounds and also the city of Prague being situate high above. I would compare it to Windsor Castle and Tower of London put together

We visited the Castel, and the area, in half day. I would recommend one full day (without children).
We'll restored, nice places to visit, a lot of guides available in different languages.
Not very well organized ( there is lack of personnel around the area). The cathedral is in the same area: beautiful multicolored windows. The funny think: you stay in a queue to enter, and then discover that to really visit it you have to go back at the entrance and but a ticket. After visiting this places is nice to have a walk to the Bridge or take a ride in the rivers boats.
If you can avoid bank holidays: too crowded.

The name is a bit of a misnomer if you are expecting a 'castle'. It is in fact a large area with lots of palaces and churches. We did it in two sessions - and made sure we saw their changing of the guard, which was worth waiting for. Although we got an all inclusive ticket, mysteriously it didn't seem to actually cover everything (possibly they were temporary exhibitions) but it was still worth it. The queue outside the cathedral was long, but in fact a lot of people were only going in to have a quick look, without a ticket so it wasn't too bad once you were in. A really worth while place to visit but allow yourself lots of time.
