If you are in Prague, All you must do is to visit all the castles. There are 2 main castles and this is one of them. Visit here and get feel of how Kings and Queens ever lived here. There are short tours available here so you can get a hold of their time table. The tour will help you to understand more about the historical nature of the castle in Prague.

We had a wonderful time at the Castle. We only had 45 minutes to tour the grounds. We did not go inside the castle. We took pictures in the courtyard and there was so much to take pictures of. We even got to see the changing of the guard as we were leaving. Overall.. Well worth the trip!

Within the Hradcany District, you can find Prague Castle and easily spend a full day in and around the castle grounds. Combination tickets include the Prague Castle Long Visit (350czk) or Short Visit (250czk) combination ticket, which are good for two days so you don't have to rush through the various attractions if you prefer a more leisurely visit. Visits to the individual attractions are possible as well.

During our recent visit, we purchased the Short Visit tickets and spent approximately 3 hours visiting St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica and the Golden Lane. Of these attractions, we thought the latter three were just ok but that the St. Vitus Cathedral was a masterpiece, one of the finest cathedrals of Gothic architecture we have been fortunate enough to have visited in Europe.

There are also some very nice viewpoints of the surrounding area of the city afforded by the elevated position of the castle grounds, we particularly enjoyed those found along the walkway from the eastern end of Prague Castle.

Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Prague Castle. It is well worth recommendation and spending at least some time even during the shortest of trips to Prague. We would probably suggest the Long Visit ticket so that you can see more of the attractions within the castle grounds. However, for those short on time, the Short ticket might still be best as it takes some time to visit these attractions.

Tip: In addition to visiting Prague Castle and its attractions, there are other nice things to see in this area of the city like the Strahov Monastery and Library, Loreta Monastery and Treasury, Schwarzenberg Palace amongst others.

Also, Mala Strana is just a quick stroll away and you can visit the outstanding Church of St. Nicholas and the Our Lady of Victorious church, which are both very good church visits to make.

Tip: If you only wish to see Prague Castle, there are some lovely views of the castle from Charles Bridge and the far bank of the Vltava River. From these locations you can take some stunning sunrise and sunset photos.

The outside of the castle is much more beautiful than the inside- I would probably not pay to go inside again but rather wonder round the grounds and admire the view. Definitely look round the church though which is stunning.
