Owner description: The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in hourly intervals.

On the hour, see the clock! Be a little early before the masses descend.

You can also visit the top of the clock tower (for a fee if memory serves about 120czk) either by lift, or by walking round the tower, and finally a spiral staircase - make sure you obey the traffic lights!

The view of the city from the top was amazing. But, off-puttingly, you couldn't necessarily see the places mentioned on the information boards from the top. All the same, a great view!

There's also a public toilet here at the bottom which charges 3czk.

The clock itself is a wonder with so many features. Crowds throng every time it strikes an hour.
Its a legend, that the guy who built it, was blinded so that he couldn't build another one.

I would strongly recommend to everybody to spend the 110 koruna amount and go to the top of the tower. Your camera's battery will run out, but the photo opportunities won't! It's the postcard Prague, the picture perfect Prague just like in the movies!
No Prague visit is complete without this one.

The astronomical clock which " performs " on the hour is a must see when in Prague.
There is always a big crowd which gathers in front of the town hall but you can easily see what happens. A word of warning , it's the perfect place for pick pockets in such a congested area so beware.
The tower is really good value to visit. Don't worry , there is a lift as it's quite a way up. The views over the city are tremendous. This reaklly is one of the great attractions in Prague.

A huge crowd gathers in front of the Astronomical Clock at about ten minutes before the hour strikes but it is always possible to see what happens as you have to look up at the clock. Figures of the twelve apostles emerge one by one from a door to the left of the clock and progress across to disappear into another door. It is absolutely fascinating and, judging by the crowds, we weren't the only ones who thought so. We took the lift to the top of the tower and were lucky to have a clear but cloudy day to see right across the roof tops of Prague and down upon the Christmas markets in the square. A visit is highly recommended.

Maybe we should have persevered and found out a bit more about it. We got here a bit before the hour, joined the crowds and waited with bated breath, but ti was over so quickly we almost missed it! Seen a lot better.
