Owner description: The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant monuments in the Czech Republic. It was established in 1338 as the administrative seat for Prague's Old Town. Now, it is mainly used for the ceremonial purposes of the capital city, Prague. The historical town hall consists of a set of five medieval houses, the corner of which is adorned with a historical astronomical clock, a gothic oriel window and a massive rectangular tower. The lookout gallery on the town hall tower offers the most beautiful view of Prague. A tour of the historical halls in the Old Town Hall is a unique experience. The expensively decorated rooms date from various periods and are examples of the remarkable development of the town hall complex. The guided tours in various languages are organised in hourly intervals.

This is one of the most amazing things to see in Prague - don't miss the clock on the hour, it is a treat to see all the sounds and motions.

The Old Town Square’s main attraction is the Astronomical Clock and Old Town Hall. We were part of the free walking tour; the guide provided detailed information on the Clock, which made it a little more interesting. The atmosphere around the clock on the hour is worth partaking; recommend arriving 10-15 minutes prior to the hour. We paid the admission (worth the small cost) and climbed the stairs (there is an elevator available) to the top of the tower in order to enjoy to views of the Old Town Square. Overall I’d say it’s worth a look.

The clock and the rest of the town square are really charming and well worth the trip, but given all the hype about what happens on the hour --It's not really worth wasting time to see what happens if youre on a tight schedule.

Do bring your camera , it would be nice to take a video especially if you want to show it to your kids, but beware of your belongings. Half of the crowd outside the clock looked like the usual gypsies waiting to prey on wide- eyed, naive tourists.

I also took offense when some local schoolchildren shouted out the words:"ni hao! ni hao!" to me and my family ... When we responded that we were not Chinese, they retorted :"well you all look e same to us! " with a tone notches above sarcasm.

We've been to many European cities for the past decades, and it is seldom that we encounter remarks such as these. It is also unfortunate that the next day a cab driver scowled at us and mumbled, "Asians ... " (followed by some words in his own language ) .

Don't get me wrong though, the attraction itself is charming and so is the rest of the city especially at night but I'm not the first one to think Prague may not be as open or ready to accept ALL tourists just yet.

Don't miss out to go up the tower and see the city centre from above. You can opt for elevator or staircases. Sometimes it's crowded since it's one of Prague historical landmarks so I recommend visiting the tower later in the afternoon or evening.

It offers a great photo opportunity as well and since there are always people, you can ask someone to take your picture!

Can't miss this. When the Clock Strikes 12 at noon, there will be 2 small doors opening above the clock. The 12 disciples of Jesus will come walking out greeting and blessing you. There will be a lot of people standing in front of the clock so prepare you camera in advance if you want to take a good photo of it. you may want to have a tour into the town hall and city clock. Part of the town hall was burnt down during a fire in the 19th Century. It was never fully rebuilt. The Tour is free though you need to pay for the entrance. Get the Tourist pass from the tourist centre. that way you will be able to save lots of money.
