“Lovely and romantic! But skip the breakfast and BYO pillow”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We stayed in 3 hotels over 4 days on our trip to Czech Republic. This hotel was by far my favourite! There were a few touches that made it just that little bit more special and well worth £20 more than your usual £100 place. But be warned, there are no lifts and quite a few steps to get to the rooms.

The reception is actually in a different building, called “Hotel Metamorphis”, next to the puppet store. If you are approaching from Mala Stupartska, Merchant's Yard Hotel is in the far corner to your right, and Metamorphis is to your left.

The staff were helpful and friendly; the porter even helped us take our large suitcase (weighing 26kg!!) up two flights of stairs (poor boy!).

The bed was massive!.. It was basically two double beds strapped together and could’ve easily fitted 3 large adults. Very comfortable, soft with a nice downy cover. The bathroom was a good size, fully tiled, bright and clean! There was a walk-in shower, a bath, hair dryer and complimentary bits and bobs. Two massive feature windows in the bedroom that opened out onto the square outside with curtains that blocked out all the light in the morning. There was also a Nespresso coffee machine on the 1st floor which was nice for a nightcap and morning booster. There's some little shops nearby and lots of cafes and bars.

The pillows were bizarre - one was huge and stuffed solid like a rock, the other was tiny and wafer thin. The huge one felt like it was pushing my neck into my chest, and the tiny one which I thought was a better choice gave me neck-ache the day after! Why can't Czech hotels get the pillows right?

I couldn’t for the life of me work out how to use the TV and digi box and there were no instructions so I gave up in the end and had a long bath. Possible way to save electricity? Who knows..

On the other hand, the breakfast which was included in the price was awful. There was cereal, a few bits of bread, some scrambled eggs, some cake and a coffee machine which sounded like it was puking into your cup. Food was a bit sparse and the staff were sour-faced. The breakfast area was also in the basement down a spiral staircase. Not great, first thing in the morning.

Overall, the room was gorgeous and well equipped. Location was excellent – it was about 5 minutes walk from the Old Town Square. I really enjoyed my stay and had a very nice experience, excluding the breakfast! Likely to stay again.

Note that they will offer you a car to the airport for 750Kc.. Do not use this! You can ask them to book a AAA taxi for you which costs around 500Kc. I've taken out a star for service because of this.

Perfectly located a few steps away from the famous Astronomical clock. This hotel's best asset is its location. You are in the middle of old town and mostly everything you want to visit is walking distance. I would definetly stay here again. Merchant's Yard is in a very ancient building but it has been remodeled and perfectly kept. The rooms are exactly as depicted by the proffesional pictures, no bad surprises. The rooms are spacious and confortable. The bed is one of the most confortables I've slept in.
Downside: there is no one to help with your bags and there are no elevators. I stayed at a 3th floor and it was difficult to get to the room. The hotel is hard to find and people around don't know it. TV was far from the bed
Upside: once you find it, you'll love its location and the fact that it is less noisy than any on a main street. You can walk everywhere from here. Room has a very nice bath, it's very clean and has a warm decoration. Loved the bed.
Most rooms include breakfast buffe in a restaurant next dook. Not great, but eatable.

Came to this hotel by accident - needed to urgently fly to the Czech Republic for working, all was planned and booked but the hotel was forgotten! None of the hotels did not get into our "corporate" price. And I took a little more expensive. It was worth it!
What I got for 125 Euros - the most beautiful girl at the reception in the world (that blonde ..) is actually a separate 40m2+ apartment in the center of Prague - you got your own entrance and keys (so there is no problem if you find someone at night :) ), a beautiful interior and breathtaking bed size (it is like another room), free wi-fi plus 19" iMac in room, great breakfast, four excellent restaurants right in the courtyard of the hotel, 1 minute walk to the town center.
So this place is fit to: 1) couples. 2) one night couples :) 3) those who tired of the hassles.
And it fits to me in any way.

My adult daughter and I stayed here last week for a few nights and would highly recommend it. Quiet, very clean, spacious and an excellent location made it ideal for our needs. The ensuite was large, modern and well ventilated; the minibar was well stocked with very cheap items. The beds were extremely comfortable; however it seemed a little unusual that the twin beds were joined together as one king sized bed (albeit with 2 separate doonas) when we had booked 2 singles. We weren't phased particularly, so decided not to make a fuss, but others may find it a problem. The room was on the second floor ( no lift).
Breakfast was more than adequate, served in an atmospheric basement of a neighbouring
building with bread, pastries, cake, meats, cheeses, cereals, some fruit plus scrambled eggs, shaved hot ham and mini frankfurts. The juice was really cordial but pleasant enough,
unfortunately the coffee was not to my taste, so on the last day we ate elsewhere for a
change. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful and kindly stored our bags all day after checkout before our overnight train that evening. We would definitely recommend this place,
especially the rooms and the wonderful location.

A wonderful hotel in the heart of Prague. The Hotel is set in the Tyn Courtyard where you can choose from a selection of restaurants and bars just outside the hotel door. A 5 minute walk from the hotel will take you onto The Old Town Square, we couldnt of asked for a better location. 5 minutes walk in the opposite direction is The Powder Gate and Wencelas Square.
The hotel is small, and the reception for the hotel is seperate to the Merchants Yard building, To check in you go into the Metamorphis Hotel entrance, I would imagine that its owned by the same people as Merchants Yard. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are of a decent size lots of space and huge bathrooms. An added luxury is the Nespresso machine and if your lucky to book the superior rooms the apple mac computer. Big beds and comfy pillows are exactly what you need when you have been walking around Prague all day.

On our last day there was no water in the hotel due to a burst on the street. We were due to check out at 12, but our flight wasnt until 7. The hotel handled the situation perfectly and let us move into another room and extended our check out time until 5pm, so we could shower and feel refreshed for our journey home. The staff were very helpful and accomodating during the situation.

The hotel had air conditioning and was very clean and comfortable. I would stay at the hotel again and would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing for a central location in Prague.

Room Tip: If you can afford to spend that little bit extra upgrade to the superior room
