“Great food and service”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

We were looking for a restaurant near our hotel so the menu here looked OK (if not a little more expensive than others, but still reasonable). We initially sat inside on the main level, then read in the menu about their cellar – so we investigated and found an absolutely delightful arched cellar area, beautifully decorated in “modern medieval” style. It was quiet, service prompt and friendly, and best of all, the food was excellent. I had “roast beef”, cooked to perfection - who said Prague doesn’t do rare beef?

It was after that we looked it up on Trip Advisor and were amazed to read the many negative reviews. Our experience bore absolutely no resemblance to any of those. The bill was exactly in accordance with the menu, and the service and food superb. There was a note on the menu about the meal being free if you were not given a full check when requested, so maybe that is in response to what appeared to us to be previous problems. To reiterate, we had a great evening, and so handy to our hotel (the Ibis and Novatel Wenceslas Square are right around the corner). Don’t be deterred by past reviews, it was great.

(By the way, paying for bread, condiments etc. is standard practice in Prague even if not specifically mentioned on the menu - it's the same at every restaurant, not a sign that you are being conned.)

“Non esageriamo, signori and gentlemen!”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

The restaurant looks really cute inside and has a nice atmosphere.
Busy place all hours of the day and very popular with locals and tourists.
Food ranges from classic local beer snacks like the marinated Hermelin cheese or their sausage, to the Czech classic gut buster, the slow braised pork knuckle and stews and braises made with game meat.
I recommend the pork medallions and ribs.
Acceptable prices, normal service, tasty meal, 10% of tips.
Only one unpleasant thing - there is no difference between smoke/non-smoke area.

“Double prices, violating customer protection ruels”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

Having heard from my (non-Czech) fronds they were charged twice as much for beverages compared to the menu, I decided to stop over at the place with a friend of mine the next day pretending not being Czechs. Quite fast we were served ordering just Pilsner beer each for 37CZK (pretty common price). After drinking them up in the outdoor seating next to a busy main road we asked to pay and were told the price was 75CZK each. To make sure we asked the waiter one more time, while he confirmed what he just had said before. In this moment we switched to Czech, which caused him some level of surprise and after asking to show us the menu / beverage list he denied doing so quibbling the menus were being redesigned so by the moment there were no available at the place. Having called the head-waiter she was trying to convince us that was just a mistake of her colleague. After threatening by calling the police (double-prices, allegedly no menus available) we were made a nervous proposal of having the beverages on the house. Nevertheless it didn’t prevent us from informing Czech Trade Inspection Authority who later found violation of consumer protection as we were informed.
According to the other reviews it might depend on the shift you encounter. You’d better let them print you a bill before you pay. In case of encountering some trouble, threaten by calling the police or letting the CTIA know (phone +420 – 296 366 360 or E-submissions accepted as well).

“No issues! Would recommend”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

I was shocked by all the negative reviews I found on this restaurant. We came here numerous times throughout our week long stay in Prague because it was right around the corner from our hotel and recommended to us by front desk.. So they charge you an extra dollar for the bread basket you didn't ask for..and? How can one complain when you get a half litre of beer for $1.50 and a full meal for around $5? Not to mention that when you normally go to a restaurant the standard tip is anywhere from 10%-20% so why should it be any different here? I find it hard to believe that they *force* you to give a 20% tip..of course it's what they prefer because they know they're dealing with tourists who don't know any better but they'll be just as happy with anything less. On my future travels to Prague I will definitely be returning and will keep recommending it to those planning to visit.

“They make you pay more! But the food is good...”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

It's pity that they decided to do business this way (maybe only with foreign tourists?): they impose you a 20% tip.
So... the good parts: food is good, atmosphere is nice (except for the smoke), waiters are nice, English speaking
Bad: there is only one BIG bad part - they force you pay more than it's on your check. They bring you the final bill, they underline on that bill "tips not included", then they put next to it a calculator that says a different amount (+20%). So you have to decide: ruin the nice meal, nice atmosphere and start arguing with the waiter, or you pay and... leave with a bad taste, swearing never to come again. It's a pity...
Bottom line: the prices are ok if you exclude the forcefully imposed 20% tip (very rude!). The smoke is thick. The food is good.

Dear customers,

I´m responding to everyone, who visited our restaurant and had a bad experience with price charges from waiters as I read in many responses here. I´m the owner of this restaurant and I was shocked about this. I must say sorry to everyone, who had a bad experience with his bill or behavour of those waiters. Unfortunetly, I didn´t have any idea about this before and found it out just thanks to tripadvisor. All those waiters were immidiately fired and all customers may be sure, that this will never happens again.
