Description: The inspired menu is the creation of Executive Chef Jiří Štift; determined to revive the Golden Era of Czech cuisine for today’s high gourmet levels. He has also selected dishes from Asia, each prepared for the purity of individual flavours. In the early 20th century Prague was a European culinary centre. Chef Štift has immersed himself in the archives and culled the best from earlier cuisine ambassadors to create a menu for the modern palate.

Great season menus with great czech wines. Service was also great. Lovely interior. We had luck, that during our visit there was also owner of the vineyard thats wine was currently on the menu. He tought us some very useful information and wines were very sensitively choosen to go with each course of the menu. Thumbs up for Essensia!!!

“Premium Brunch in Prague”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

We have been regular guests to the Mandarin Wine Brunch since April. We visited the Mandarin brunch for the first time based on a special offer, and after the first visit, we just said we had to be back. Since then, we enjoyed each of the monthly themed wine brunches.

The concept is different compared to the majority of Prague brunches, it is not a buffet style, but a four course served menu, with a selection of two options. Each course is paired with wines. Every month, there is a different theme and a different local winery.

We are simply in love with the hotel and the restaurant. Everything is great from the moment you step in. No matter if the weather is nice and you can be served on the outside terrace, or if you stay inside. The menu is always very well combined and the wine selection and pairing is excellent. The team is very knowledgeable about the menu and the wines. Sometimes, even the winemaker is present and ready to explain all details. You also get your little wine card to make notes.

The food has always been extraordinary, with different themes reflecting the season.
I would like to mention the attitude to children. We have a one year old son and since his 6 months, we have been to Mandarin regularly. He loves the place, the team is always very attentive to him and he has his favorite toys there. He very much likes a giant plush broccoli and strawberry. Last time, these plush veggies were waiting for us already seated at our table. What a nice touch!

The place as such is very special, the hotel is located in an old monastery in the Little Quarter and the outside terrace on the courtyard is a little gem, where you can hide from the rest of the world and you forget your everyday worries.

Let me also mention some of the team members who deserve our special thanks. Michaela, who is always smiling and is great with kids. Our son loves her, whenever we come and he sees her, he is sooo happy, you should see his face. Jiri is a very attentive waiter with good knowledge of wines, very polite and professional. Adela is a nice young lady with a big smile. Pavel, the restaurant manager is doing a great job, always ready to greet us and have a little chat, with a very deep knowledge about the wines and wine pairing. Last but not least, I want to mention the kitchen team headed by Jirka Stift. Once I even ordered his risotto as a dessert!

All in all, the Mandarin wine brunch is a great value for money and you feel like royalty. We are happy we found our way to the Mandarin brunch, we highly recommended and will be back soon.

“Food like i have never tasted.....and i like to eat good food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

After living in Prague for 6yrs and eating and some hit and miss places, we discovered the wine brunch at Essensia, the brunch runs from 12pm-3pm with several courses each melting in your mouth and each month a different menu, it includes a buffet of wine for which you can help yourself or wait to be served and is unlimited, No one is rushing you, you can take your time between courses and savour each flavour, the service is as you would expect from a 5 star restaurant and with the ambience to match. Its always nice to be greeted by a smiling face and here it happens everytime.
We have now been back several times, and will be back here again in Sept for the new menu.

“very good asian dishes, servce a bit slow, pity terrace in courtyard isnt a better setup”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

In summer you can sit in courtyard of hotel and enjoy fresh air. The terrace suffers a bit from also being beside drivein to hotel. During our evening meal, we had hotel limos shine their headlights on us sometimes, starting cars, exhaust fumes etc.

Food was very good, we ate only off asian menu. All accompanied by very good selection of asian breads with tasty dips. starters and mains cooked well, but service from kitchen and bar was a bit slow. Ended up eating quite alot of bread while waiting although the staff did realise and explain.

Wine and coffee were great. Cocktails could have been better prepared (martini in a whiskey glass).

Not cheap, but also probably worth it based on quality of food.

Weekend wine brunch (every month a new one) is excellent! With good price value. Highly recommend. This wasn´t our first nor last visit, we was there three times yet. Best restaurant in Prague for me.
