To start with the positive of staying at the leon d'oro is clearly its outstanding location - unfortunately once you acknowledge that, the rest must be both the worst hotel or apartment we have ever stayed in. The accommodation is either an extremely poor hotel bordering on hostel or a series of terribly equipped apartments.
On the day of our arrival we were shown to a room which can only be described as dirty, especially within the kitchen area with burnt food caked onto the electric hob, a dirty fridge and dirty cupboards. Not that the cupboards being dirty made much difference as they contained no crockery, cutlery and one very dirty glass. When we asked for a kettle which was also not present in the room we were brought a very dirty small one.
On complaining we were given another room, though the room was definitely cleanier, it would be no-one's idea of clean. It was probably only as clean at this stage as when we entered the maids were busily scouring the hob. In fairness, in both rooms the bathrooms were of a high standard and clean unfortunately the rest of the rooms weren't.
It was probably only at this stage that we noticed the impact of the major works going on in the building as they attempted to replace the old lift. This was espcially inconvenient with a 7 year old child when trying to pass workmen precariously balanced on ladders on the stairs, but by this stage the dust and noise from this was only a minor inconvenience.
Resigned to our lot we went out in Prage and tried to make the best of our situation and were looking forward to our promised hot buffet breakfast. You will not be surprised to know that this was the most disappointing breakfast I have had the misfortune to come across in any hotel. Cold gammon, one choice of salami and cheap cheese served on one plastic tray alongwith a choice of 2 or 3 breads was the full extent of the buffet - at least they had a fruit juice machine available for refreshments. Unfortunately by the second day the fruit juice machine was not working and we were now limited to a choice of water or orange squash to drink.
Really, we could go on about how poor this hotel/apartment was but the only advice I can give anyone is not to be seduced by the location and look anywhere else.
It should be said Prague is still a stunning city and worth a visit.
