We ate here for my birthday whilst in Prague for the weekend. After reading reviews on here we thought it best to book a table via the website. The restaurant is beautiful, very traditional and live music. Beer & food also very good. All in all the atmosphere was lovely and I would definately eat here again.

We had lunch here one day and the room is lovely. Food was also quite good and the beer was nice. However, the service is terrible and they charge 50ck for forks/napkins - I usually assume this is included.

The decor/tile work of the restaurant is beautiful, and the music is delightful. (We happen to like accordion. If you're not a polka fan, it might not work for you.) The food was good, but not great--served by a very nice and good waiter.

The evening was somewhat ruined at the end. After paying our bill with credit card (which the maitre d' handled) we had left a 200-crown bill plus 60 crowns in change as a trip for our waiter. We noticed the maitre d' scoop up the bill from the tip plate but leave the change. It appeared that he was keeping the bill for himself, and leaving the change for the waiter--giving the waiter the impression that that was the extent of our tip. (And yes, we know it's over-tipping for local standards, but that's our biz and the waiter was great.) We waited until we saw our waiter, and told him that his boss had part of the tip we'd left him--thinking maybe there was an explanation. He did not comment, but simply got the maitre d' and said we wished to talk to him. When confronted, the m.d. got very angry--but did immediately put a 200-crown note back onto the tip plate. This was an awful way to end a lovely evening. Not good.

Go, enjoy, but if you leave a tip for your waiter be sure to hand it to him/her personally.

It's a huge touristy place in a basement of Obecni Dum (Municipal House), but the food (standard pub fare) was great, the service was good & prices were reasonable.
