This place was really cool (not temperature wise, though). I read the reviews on Trip Advisor, so off we ventured over the Charles Bridge to the Lesser Town area. On a much more quiet street stood U Stare Studny. The entrance alone impressed; you are greeted by a view of a wine barrel, stone and bottles of wine, and stone steps leading down to a cellar. It just felt rustic in there. I was intrigued from the start. We proceeded down the steps where we were greeted and asked if we preferred smoking or non, and both my husband and I enthusiastically responded, "Non!" What a relief, since almost every other place we dined had smokers at nearby tables.
Our visit to Prague was almost the last stop on a three-week European road trip loop that took us from Germany to Italy to Croatia to Austria, then Czech and Germany again. We had done some serious eating and drinking in our travels, so by the end of the trip we were getting much more critical and discriminating of our meals. U Stare Study delivers in ambience, wine quality, and attentive service. The cheese, salami, bread, and olives were a perfect light dinner for a couple who had eaten a far too large lunch. I would give it an Excellent rating, but there was a wine bar in Bellagio, (Lake Como) Italy that I enjoyed more.
