went back again to the gloria and the area is becoming very nice...i always loved it but now the price is more expensive as thomson holidays and jet 2 use it..so its not the bargain it was but still great value...people moan about the carpets its a shame they are beige..and after traipsing around in the snow and street the carpets have become dirty.as in many countries we would remove our dirty shoes at the entrance if it was our homes..they should have put darker..anyway it doesnt affect the rest of the hotel is spotless, staff helpful, great restaurants nearby...also a new cafe ...when you come out turn left as if you were walking into town...and on the right is NATALIYA CAFE..its owned by Vaclav and Natalie ..its great for coffees and fresh baquettes and cakes all home made and they have promise to get some tetley t bags for those out there who dont want a herbal tea...so on the way back from shopping or walking stop off in the cafe before you go back to hotel for a lovely cuppa and a cake or delicous coffee...Vaclav lived in Cambridge for 5 years and speaks perfect English and his wife speaks 4 languages...you can even pay in sterling...its just opened and ive just got back home...i will be visiting Prague again in december...one of my favourite places...a bargain hotel and a great cafe...ive been in the travel business 25 years and you wouldnt get a hotel in london or glasgow for this price, book it

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel Gloria from the 27th to the 30th December and, while the carpet was stained and it seemed basic, it was clean, warm, quiet and comfortable. After reading reviews on this site we bought a 3 day travel ticket at the airport and got the 119 bus from right outside the terminal to Dejvicka, where we got the metro to Staromestska, we walked up the stairs and turned right at the top of the street to get the 207 bus that left us off about 20 feet from the door of the hotel. Travel is so easy - we never had to wait more than 5 minutes, whether it was for bus, metro or tram and they ran until midnight - hop on just across the road, 5 minutes to town. Anyway, on the first day we got to the hotel at around 11.30am and, although unable to check in as it was early, we left our bags with the friendly, helpful staff and walked across the road to the Sklepeni Restaurant (Husitska, not Prokopova, beside the bus stop). We were greeted by a friendly, English speaking waitress and given a menu in English that a wide range of dishes on it to suit most international tastes. We went back the next evening and had a two and a half course meal each (we shared dessert!) with a couple of drinks each for less than £20 (even less in Euros). Some people in reviews have said the area is grubby and that they didn't feel safe, but we felt it was a good location as it was quiet and the shops nearby sold all the bits and bobs we needed. The hotel was quiet and we came back for a rest in the late afternoon for a rest before doing more exploring and were not disturbed at all. If I started writing about Prague I would end up with a novel - we want to come back as soon and as much as possible and my husband insists we would stay at Gloria next time.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor, in a corner room and could see the TV tower (with the crawling babies) fro...

We booked last minute (chose because of reviews) and upon arrival it turned out that there was an overbooking, As there was nobody at reception at the time the request had arrived, we received an apology and were compensated for that by being sent by cab to another, 4-star hotel, at no extra cost. Thumbs up for the service.

Stayed at the Gloria Hotel in Prague for four nights earlier this month. Very pleasantly surprised too. Never having been to Prague before, I was probably expecting things to be maybe not what I was expecting if you understanding what I mean?.lol.
Excellent value. The only thing I could say against the hotel was that the carpets in the rooms were shoddy, through a few people being maybe not so careful as to wiping feet as they come in etc.
Breakfast was great. Juices, tea, coffee, cereals, eggs, youghurt, sausages, ham, cheese, plenty of bread and a daily surprise too !! (One day it was warm rice pudding, another it was sort of fried potato !!) However, after breakfast, set up for the day!

What an excellent hotel, room was adequate for us, only fault was the lack of ventilation in the ensuite and seats to sit on. Shame the free wifi is not available in the rooms also. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, staff were always pleased to help, hotel was clean however for a non smoking hotel there was at times quite a smell of smoke. The hotels location was excellent, we found no problem in navigating the Prague transport system and could be just about anywhere we wanted to be within 30 minutes from the bus stop 50m from the hotel. We ate locally in the evening and found the local pubs and restaraunts to be very friendly and inviting, the prices were very reasonable as well.

In summary we would happily stay at the Gloria Hotel again.
