“Room 601 best view in the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2012

Wow...room 601....what a view....classed as a senior suite (can be joined with 602 to make the Presidential suite). First of all check in....the staff were lovely, couldn't have been more helpful, they showed us to our room, you needed to swipe the key in the lift to reach the 6th floor. The view from our room was incredible you were looking up at the castle and when it was lit up at night it was just perfect. The room and bathroom were extremely clean and there was a balcony, with table and chairs which we weren't expecting.

Breakfast is so so. The first morning we didn't go down till 10am (breakfast is 0730-1030 in winter) so most the hot food, eggs, bacon, sausage were gone, but more was cooked. Good choice of continental as well. Endless supply of tea, coffee, juices.

Tea and coffee is delievred to your room round the clock free of charge as there are no facilities in the room, but nothing is too much for the staff.

There is a mini spa in the basement of the hotel that was included in our package, to pay I think it is about £20 (euro) per person. There's a hot tub, sauna, steam room, exercise bike, weights machine and chill out area. The best bit about this is you book it and it is only you guys in there, once you have booked a time to go in they don't allow anyone else in and......there's no time limit!!! As long as you can stay in the spa area you can have as long as you want, there's a phone to order food and drinks so you could get carried away! I hope its like this for everyone!

Really good location close to the castle but also the bridges so all areas of the city are accessible. We only ate breakfast in the restaurant so can't comment on other foods.

The hotel is opposite a walled garden so if your are on floors 2-3 I doubt you will see anything but a big white washed wall, however I believe floors 4 and above have excellent views. Its worth checking the hotels website as we got a really good deal for the senior suite and the best view ever!

Room Tip: Room 601 I cant reccomend it enough, worth the extra for the view!

We have just spent 3 nights at this excellent hotel. The rooms were not huge but bed and decor top class and sheets changed every day. Fantastic clean and powerful shower in well equipped bathroom. Staff very friendly and helpful and 24 hr free room service tea and coffee. Breakfast was varied and plentiful. Lovely location away from centre but a 15 minute stroll along one of two bridges into the hustle and bustle of tourist Prague. Much better to stay this side as close to castle, trams and metro and shops and bars are better quality and slightly cheaper.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on back of hotel. Do not be put off if offered a room near lifts. We never heard them...

Booked this hotel, came in the evening, and they told me that they have no available room for me, they are over booked, well... only i can say that location is perfect! Had no possibility to visit the rooms. They proposed me "alternative hotel" and it was Hoffmeister hotel, near by, and my staying there was really good, if i ll visit Prague again, i ll stay at this hotel.

Very good loctation - away from hustle and bustle. Great staff - Reception people organised coffee and tea (24 hours a day) we tried it at 2am-just right. And tickets to the ice hockey. Best breakfasts. Grand decor everywhere, but many modern conveniences.

Room Tip: As for a room over the palace gardens - lovely.

The hotel was not what I would have expected from a 5 star hotel it did not have the finer touches you get with a 5 star, it was more of a 4 star quality. The hotel has 6 floors. Our room was on the 2nd floor and we had a slight view of the castle and it was lovely decorated in nice colours but the room was quite small. The 1st night they forgot to clean our room but they were very apologetic and sent someone straight away. I missed not having coffee and tea making facilities in the room even though you can order complimentary tea and coffee 24 hours a day but I found that a nuisance and would have preferred to have been able to make myself. There was only a shower in the bathroom and not a bath too. I like to have both. The breakfast buffet was okay but nothing special again more similar to a 4 star and not a 5 star. The fruit juices were not fresh only from concentrate (I do love nice juices) and the tea was weak. They did do nice fruit salad and a nice choice of breads. The hotel was in an excellent location in Lesser Town and is a bit quieter that side of the river than the Old Town. However it was a 2 minute walk from The Charles Bridge and 10 minutes from the Old Town. It is also 5 mins walk to Prague Castle. The staff were generally friendly throughout our stay but we left with a nasty taste in our mouth as 1st thing when we checked out we unfortunately had lost one of our room keys which is basically a plastic card. The receptionist then asked us for 100 krone to replace it which is equivalent to about 4 euros. I have stayed in many 5 star hotels as I work in the travel industry and have never been asked to pay for a plastic card as normally I just leave them in the room when we leave or place them in a postbox in the reception area. Anyway that was a shock and I complained and the reception then said don't worry she would pay the money for us (I don't think so) then she tried to charge us for mineral water out of the mini bar and when we said we didn't have anything from there she said yes we did as we had a bottle in our room. We said we had brought them into the room ourselves. We don't really understand why she would think we drunk from the mini bar as the bottles of water were much bigger than what was in the mini bar. Then lastly we asked to put the luggage in storage while we went out of the hotel and when we came back to the hotel to collect our luggage to leave the porter just opened the storage room door and left us to go in and get the luggage which was not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel. I think the porter did this because we complained about the key and the mini bar incident as he stood by reception when this occurred. When we left we said thank you and goodbye and the reception did not even reply even though I had tried to be friendly to her afterwards. I do not expect that treatment in a customer service environment. I work in the industry and know how to treat people. I think this hotel is independently run.

Royal Palace equals vicinity of the Hradcany hill, Charles Bridge and even short jump over the river - Parizska Street (the most luxurious shopping area in Prague).
For visiting the city it has really an optimal location.
Letenska street might be noisy due to the tram traffic, so ask for the higherr-floor rooms to avoid the disturbance and gain great views to the Prague highlights.

Rooms are reasonably equipped (but not really luxury) and beds/linens are cozy.
The style is somehow overflown by the fake gold (yep, they took the Palace name really literally) and might be a little disturbing.
No wifi in the rooms (old building), just cable. It's a problem for many ultramobile travellers these days.

The only really bad thing about this hotel is the breakfast. Tiny room with not enough space, that works only off season. Food selection very limited (mostly overfried sausages). Fruits are saving the overall image.

Hotel is slightly overpriced, but for visiting Prague, I would recommend it.

Room Tip: take higher floor for quiet nights and great views

I had a great stay at the Royal Palace during a short business visit to Prague in late 2010. The hotel is wonderfully located close to the famous Charles Bridge, has some fantastic food joints near by, a running tram right next to it and spacious 'royal' rooms. The front office staff is the most pleasant set of people I have met who make you feel at home. The breakfast is not the greatest and not much for room service. Nevertheless, the hotel was great value for money (esp as it was off-season) and I look forward to going back to Prague and Royal Palace.
