“Never seen a room tiled like this”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

Amazing room dating back to 1913 which is reason enough to visit and have a look. Great service and the food was OK so glad I went but nothing to make me want to revisit in a great hurry.

“Smart but less charming than other Prague cafes”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

It's always good to see old Central European cafes reborn. And a beautiful job has been done restoring the elaborate tiling and other artwork at the Imperial. The coffee, food and service overall was good.

The cafe's let down by some bossy attitudes towards customers - unlike other old Prague cafes we couldn't sit where we wanted and we were asked on entering whether we wanted just coffee or a meal. Some of our party of four hadn't decided yet and we asked couldn't we decide when we looked at the menu - this got a surly reaction from a female manager who gave every appearance of having previously served with the Czechoslovak communist regime's border guard service (the only unfriendly service we encountered in a week in Prague). Even though the cafe was only a quarter full our request for a table led to extended staring into computers while we waited - apparently some areas are reserved for coffee and others for meals (even though every table looked the same). Overall the experience was unfortunately a bit reminiscent of Budapest's New York Cafe - another grand old and expensively restored establishment let down by bossy and unfriendly service.

Other brickbats - canned music and shiny new tables and chairs. If you want a charming old Prague cafe, infinitely preferable are the wonderful Slavia, Louvre, Grand Orient or the Obecni dum (Municipal House) cafe.

“not bad, not good, high prices, nice service”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

the food is outspoken - and not keeping its reputation in reality. service is brilliantm, though, and the art-deco design is worth of one overpriced cafe lavatto (2 euro plus) for those who want to understand prague architecture in its early 1900s.

“Great Braised veal cheeks on red wine”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

Very good atmosphere, place where you feel a bit of 30's there. They know how to please customer. Really nice Braised veal cheeks on red wine, but try the other dishes as well.
