“one of the better restaurants in the old town”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

Located conveniently opposite the Mustek metro station, this pub serves quite good czech food, such as beer flavoured pork ribs. Many people come here for drinks and the non-smoking section is quite small. You might need to reserve especially if coming for dinner, we had to share seats with other people because other tables were reserved.

“Double check your bill !!”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

I could not agree more with PragueGn`s review from Jan 7. These guys extremely overcharge your bill, adding beers, drinks, etc. The manager seems to be involved in this scam, so there is no point in escalating your complaint. First time I was overcharged, I thought it was a mistake, second time, I had my doubts, for the third time I know this is not a coincidence and it was a final show stopper. Never going to this place again.

“A great find”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

We were taking the City Sightseeing Tour when the guide happened to mention a place behind the New Yorker store at the bottom of Wenceslas Square. He couldn't tell us the name of it but he said that he used it, so we thought we'd give it a try. First of all smoking is allowed in pubs and restaurants in Prague, although some places ban it between 1100-1400. The Provaznice has a non-smoking area should you wish it. We went in for lunch, two of us had Weiner Schnitzel and my wife had a huge plate of battered mushrooms. along with drinks this came to about £30. We returned there each day and were very impressed with the food and the service. Once the staff get to know you they are very friendly, special mention to Vlastimil and Pavel.

“Count your beers and check your bill”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

Went here several times as it was a friend's hang-out. The food was decent and the service usually quick but the bill was regularly wrong and one of the barmen in particular was constantly overcharging. At least one of the waitresses also seemed to be involved, though some were nice. (I noticed another reviewer had the same problem.

He also had a trick of pouring the beer from a height so that it looked like you were getting a full pint but you were actually being short-measured. It's an old Czech trick. Most Prague bars take stock after every shift and match it against the cash in the wallets.

The staff take their own stock so, if they can short-measure punters all night, they can pocket the extra cash. This was explained to me by a guy who had worked in Czech bars for years. Mistakes happen occasionally - when it happens as often as this, it's scamming the customers and communal bills delivered at the end of the night lend themselves to it.

“Best service and barfood in Prague”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

I always love to visit U Provaznice.

The food is plenty and great.

The service from the staff is beyond expectation. Quick, friendly and always to the utmost satisfaction.

Kuba and all the others in U Provaznice will always make you feel right at home, and for me there is no doubt - this is my place in Prague and I look forward to coming back soon again.
