“Really wonderful hostel”
Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

After traveling through 9 countries over several months, this hostel stands out as one of my favorites. It's clean, spacious, a wonderful location. It offers everything you would need, and has an amazing kitchen and massive common areas while still maintaining a necessary coziness. Don't even worry, it's fantastic. Aside from being a comfortable home in a beautiful city, the hostel- Kristian in particular- provides wonderful nightly activities, one of which is the castle tour. It was an amazing way to see the city and spend time with an intelligent, funny, passionate and crazy man who has a lot of affection for his home. I definitely recommend it. As well I recommend going with him to his favorite vegetarian restaurant, Estrella, which is delicious and again, wonderful company. Thank you to this hostel, and especially thank you to Kristian for making Prague particularly beautiful.

After staying in a horrific hostel on the first night of our stay in Prague, we moved on to Hostel Downtown. We were so relieved when we got there. The place was so clean, staff were friendly and helpful and most importantly made us feel very welcome. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend who was travelling to Prague as I felt it offered everything a hostel should offer and you feel right at home instantly. Hostel is in a great location also. Very pleasant stay here.

The hostel was very nice: great and hard working staff (Pepa pulled a 24 hr shift, and he likes it, how crazy is that?), good breakfast for a great value with espresso coffee machine, the wifi is good, very clean, great location, etc. But the best part was the free night castle tour guided by Kristian. It's free so any income or revenue is generated solely by tips, but imo, this was the best tour I took, whether paid or free. Meets at 8pm (but not every night) and then Kristian is off leading a group of 20+ through the city, both old town and to the castle and in between. fast paced and it lasts 3 hours (make sure to eat dinner or a snack beforehand). Night time in the castle is a great experience and i recommend it to everyone, even if they also go during the day (i recommend both), and the panoramic views of the city from the castle are amazing at night, even better if it's a full moon. Kristian's supremely knowledgable, witty, intelligent and talks about Prague's history with passion, humor and national pride. I can't compare the Downtown hostel with other hostels in Prague because I didn't stay in any others, but I would stay there again next time without hesitation. I can compare the tour with others though and can say that none are better. Looking forward to returning sometime soon.

I recently stayed at this hostel and was impressed with majority of aspects of the hostel. Great location (less than 10min stroll to Astronomical clock) very comfortable common room, free wifi, great kitchen facilities PLUS cheap and yummy breakfast everyday. I also loved that they offered a free or cheap activity every night and obviously had a good rapport with local tour companies as the walking tour guide even picked everyone up everyday. The only downside for me was the electricity in our room kept turning off, probably just our room or level (608) however we were constantly having to tell reception. It wouldn't have been a major issue except we had to shower with door open just to see! They were helpful and kept turning it back on but just a little annoying. I would recommend this hostel and consider staying again should I return to Prague.

I have experienced this hostel several times after its opening some years ago and every year I find something new and vallue adding. This time I have discovered that they have extended the common area to all first floor space, which is excellent! It is really meeting place where you can find all information you need before start to explore this fantastic city. Hostel staff is very friendly and ready to assist you any time. Clean, comfort, safe rooms. Very good and freshly prepared breakfast. Excellent equiped self-catering kitchen. Location is superb: walking distance to all Golden Prague highlights relevant for daily tours as well as to reach downtown night 'must go' places. Two shops nearby as well as affordable fast and slow food restaurants. I really love this place and its people which always make me happy! I highly recommend this hostel to stay if you go to Prague. Congratulations to the manager and his team!

Great place - friendly staff, well kept rooms, and well informed staff with lots of good ideas. They also have free activities, but we didn't have time to try any of those. The breakfast was delicious and an excellent value, and the hostel is in a great central location to go forth from and see the Jewish quarter, the castle, and any other sights you might like to see. If you're staying here, I also highly recommend eating at the Resturace Ostrovni, which was very close, had excellent food, and a great value. Our room got a lot of street noise, but it didn't other my traveling mates, so I can't say it was too loud.

Room Tip: Ask for one back from the street if you're worried about noise
