Owner description: Every country has its symbols and legends and the Czech ones include Pilsner Urquell lager which has been brewed in a town called Plzen (Pilsen) since 1842. Since then the fame of Pilsner Urquell beer has spread around the world and, inspired by this exceptional brew, more than two-thirds of the beers produced today are commonly known as pils, pilsner or pilsener. The Pilsner Urquell brewery is a unique industrial heritage site which holds the status of Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH). The brewery tour showcases all of the authentic places where Pilsner Urquell lager has been brewed for more than 170 years, and where its story continues today. You will see the heart of the brewery - both the historical and contemporary brewhouse. You will smell and taste the raw materials that are used to brew Pilsner Urquell, and the panoramic cinema will take you through the brewing process. And at the end you will taste unfiltered Pilsner Urquell beer tapped straight from oak lager barrels in the historic brewery cellars. The brewery is open year-round. The journey from Prague takes about one-and-a-half hours and you can either travel on your own by car, bus or train.

“Worth the visit!”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

This was a very nice brewery tour. My husband and I have been a many many brewery tours (including large operations like the Pilsner Urquell operation), and we were NOT at all bored with this tour. On the hour and a half tour, you get a nice dose of history, historical operations, and how they differ from modern operations. This was very interesting. Unlike many brewery tours, you actually have the chance to see, touch, and taste barley and hops. (If you drive to Pilsen from Germany you'll likely drive through the fields where the hops are grown!) The historic cellars were especially interesting and picturesque. Of course the highlight of the visit was a pint of unfiltered, unpasteurized beer straight from the barrel. You'd be surprised how different it tastes... and it was delicious!

After the tour, you can enjoy the weather at the outdoor cafe and have a few well priced beers and snacks. We really enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to anyone visiting Plzen.

“MUST see attraction in Pilsen”
Reviewed June 8, 2013 via mobile

If you spend few days in Pilsen, Pilsener Brewery is must see attraction specially for beer lovers. You get complete history about beer brewing, you can taste original traditionaly brewed larger in old oaks barrels in ceddars. I definitely recommend this and after that, have few beers in near restaurant Spilka od best traditional pub Na Parkanu which belongs to pilsener brewery.

“Excellent Brewery Tour - This is a Must Do.!”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

Caterina did a great job explaining the history of beer and of the Plzen Pilsner Urquell Brewery operations. This was a great tour. Hour and a half of viewing, smelling hops, tasting barley, witnessing the packaging of the product. When in the barrel room in the cellars, we were offered a tasting of the unfiltered, unpasturized beer. The way they used to make and drink it... tasted different..actually very good. At the end of tour there is not a tasting room, u get a coupon for a free beer at one of pilsners taverns. Highly recommended

“Every Man's Dream Tour! lol”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

I did this tour with a group of 20 women...we did it for the men in our lives! It was fun, educational and we even got to taste the beer right from the large kegs in the cellar....trust me when I say it doesn't get fresher than that!

Its a nice set up, the tour was about an hour. There's a resturant and gift shop too (nice way to end the tour).

We stayed in Prague, so the drive to Pilsen was about 1.25 hours!

“Good beer tour for most people who like beer-wide appeal but lacking for beer geeks”
Reviewed May 22, 2013 via mobile

A well done tour for people who are interested in beer but don't know a lot. Like most brewery tours' the person leading the tour specializes in guiding tours, not making beer. So, for most folks that is fine, but you will come up short if you ask tetchy questions. The tour organization is a bit weird in that you start at the packaging plant. Some nice displays and you can taste barley before and after malting along with hops. Good movie overview. And, at the end, a nice taste of unpasteurized unfiltered Pils. Check ahead for tour times in the language of your choice.
