This restaurant is becoming the "anchor" establishment in a downtown shopping center that is fast becoming a vacant "ghost town". Although the Center is fairly new and in a great location, it increasingly finds itself without tenants. The Zlaty Slon has been in the same 3rd floor location since the Center opened a few years back and continues to do a brisk business due primarily to its well prepared food done to order, its prices ($5.00 USD will get you a main with rice or noodles and a bowl of soup or a large spring roll or a soft drink) and its extremely fast, courteous and efficient service.
I've been a regular patron since its opening and have yet to order a dish that did not please. The portions are ample and the ingredients are top quality. They serve a quality rice (I believe Jasmine) rather than run of the mill white rice. Most chicken dishes feature breast meat rather than a lesser cut or processed meat. I have to believe that their beef, duck and other meat offerings are also top quality. Every dish comes with a slaw-type salad and there are a variety of condiments made available to your table. I am partial to their Hot and Sour soup (at $.75/bowl) but occasionally it comes to the table not as hot as I like.
All in all, this comes close to a fast food diner in a clean, modern sit down setting. Ordering is easy; done at the counter with every thing displayed as a picture on the wall behind the cashier. Entrees run from about $2.50 to $4.75. Extras like soup, drinks or a spring roll run about $1.00 each. Available drinks include bottled water, juices, soft drinks and beer.
If you find yourself at the center of town or adjacent to the town's transportation hub, you can't go wrong hopping into this Chinese cafe (located on the 3rd floor of the Delta Shopping Center) for a satisfying meal.
