“Beautiful View!”
Reviewed September 15, 2011

This was a last minute decision for us. Rooms were a little pricey but the hotel is beautiful and so are the grounds. We walked a lot! The town is enchanting. Our room had a perfect view of the city with a very nice balcony. The staff were ok, not great. They did speak English but not very friendly. Breakfast was fantastic!

Friends recommended the Imperial and we spent three weeks at this amazing castle. We were avaited at the Prague Airport, friendly driver, great ride to Karlovy Vary, beautiful scenery. Our medical spa vacation was a unique experience. The doctors and therapists have treated us with highest attention and competence. The food at the Paris restaurant is delicious and the service very kind. The rooms spaceous, clean and comfortable. The panorama view from our balcony unforgetable. Great pool. Some nice golf courses nearby. Will be a pleasure to come back :-) Gragg & Liza, N.Y.

Pros:
- large hotel located in an old historical building which looks very nice
- excellent view to the city and mountains, because it's located on top of the city
- rooms are very large with high ceilings. I have been in many hotels in Europe and this one had the largest rooms.
- a lot of fresh air available around the hotel area, as it looks next to the mountain and forest area.
- large variety of spa procedures/treatments. Big diversity.
- staff at the reception, restaurants, nurses and spa center are nice, friendly and helpful. They tried very well to accommodate and help all patients.
- the staff at spa center comes to you usually when procedure starts. So, there was no problem with missing any procedures, because they were always waiting for you and asking patients to make sure nobody misses their treatments.
- spa center is in the same building which makes it easy to go back to the room between procedures to take a rest
- free ticket is provided to ride a funicular and one of the common buses
- food makes you actually lose weight, because it seemed to be designed dietary. There are a lot of salads and healthy elements inside.
- room service and cleaning are very good and efficient. They always clean it well and fast. It is always clean and tidy. I was very impressed.
- mineral water source is located inside of the building which makes it easy to access.
- the nurse is on sight 24 hours and always tries to answer your questions and provides very good help.

Cons:
- windows in the rooms had no nets and the rooms have no central or local AC. This means you have to keep your windows open to get fresh air. As a result, a lot of bugs and insects including flies and mosquitoes enter your room and you have to get rid off them.
- LAN internet in the room is available, which is very nice. However, it has a lot of interruptions starting the afternoon. It seems like people either start downloading some heavy stuff or bandwidth decreases a lot in the afternoon.
- there are a lot of arrogant tourists in the hotel. For example, I have met some arrogant tourists from Russia.
- our doctor seemed to be knowledgeable and tried to help us, but she had lacked communication skills and became sometimes nervous when you asked her questions. Not sure whether she had a bad day or some family problems.
- there is a point system used by the hotel spa center to decide how many spa treatments a patient gets, but the whole scheme of what procedure gets x number of points is not transparent and nobody can really explain this to none of patients. So, I could not understand this.
- there is an old elevator in the building which does not fit more than 3 people, but it's written it can handle 6 people. The elevator stops working when the door does not close properly. I think this needs to be fixed properly.
- showers are not designed properly, because water often leaks out to the floor when you take shower which is sometimes annoying.
- try to make extra money on things like phone calls within the city or receipts for insurance company. I think this could be done for free to patients staying at the hotel.
- the spa center has no mandatory rule for patients to wear slippers in the procedures and shower rooms which can create some hygienic problems in general or make patients to fall down when the floor is slippery.
- alarm in the TV does not work properly often. It bugs and loses alarms that are setup.

We appreciate your evaluation of our services and extensive comments, referring, among others, to shortcomings. This information brings us valuable feedback. We would like to take this opportunity to address some of the flaws you mentioned.
Our staff receives regular training regarding corporate standards, including language skills.
14-day therapeutic packages are limited to 18 procedures per week. Considering the guest’s physical condition the spa physician prescribes an exact number of types of procedures so as to achieve the best therapeutic effects possible.
The Imperial Hotel has a total of 4 elevators for guests: 2 elevators are right at the front desk and 2 older, yet fully functional and perfectly safe elevators in building wings. The refurbishment of these older elevators is planned for this year.
We will look forward to your next stay in Hotel Imperial.

Reviewed November 19, 2010

My mother and I came for a 2 week stay here in November 2010. We are both Russian speakers so the lack of English language speaking staff is not a problem. We have mostly enjoyed our stay with the exception of a very unpleasant interaction with the hotel's management, which still has a lesson to learn about keeping their customers happy. My mother had made a reservation using her credit card more than a month in advance. We planned to split the charges and use credit cards that don't have a high foreign transaction fee. Apparently unlike every other hotel in the world where I have stayed and I travel A LOT, Imperial charges the whole stay on the day of arrival as it is part of their internal rules. Instead of informing us at chech-in that this will be done they went ahead and charged my mother's credit card. When we protested to the management they kept saying that this is their practice and they see no responsibility in having us incur these charges - and had the audacity to ask us why we didn't tell them beforehand. Explaining to them that every other hotel we had stayed in charges guests on the day of departure and that had they trained their staff to let guests know about their rules and we would have been happy to pay with our no fee cards upon arrival was futile. The unctious manager kept saying "its not his fault". I had asked if they would offset the transaction charge by reducing our room charges by the amount thus turning me into a happy customer to no avail. I guess in Hotel Imperial the customer is not always right.

Additionally the hotel has siome other oddities - like not allowing you to charge items to your room when you use one of the restaurants that are not part of the food plan. The food is hit or miss and has a suprrising amount of pork products for a diet that is supposed to be focused on healthy eating. Room cleaning was not always very thorough and the room was left often with a lot of dust.

We would like to thank you for staying with us and for providing us with valuable feedback. We are glad that you were generally satisfied with your stay at the Imperial. Nonetheless, we regret to learn that there were some aspects that you felt somewhat dissatisfied with.
The reception staff followed standard procedures, when guests pay for their stay upon their arrival with the payment card, with which they have guaranteed their reservation. If any guest wishes to pay in a different manner, they should inform the reception beforehand. The hotel manager met with you twice in an effort to clarify the whole situation.
Hotel guests may either pay for their consumption at individual facilities directly or the appropriate amount may be charged to their hotel bill.
The selection of meals offered by our restaurant is quite variegated. In addition, guests may consult our nutrition therapist who is present at the restaurant and will readily advise the guests on their most suitable diet or prepare their individual diet plan.
It is a pity that you have not mentioned all your suggestions directly to our manager who could have provided an immediate solution.

I am accustomed to American hotels, which typically have fairly large rooms, and normally Queen or King sized beds. Hence my level of satisfaction in Europe is often on the low end because European hotels usually have much smaller rooms, and getting a large bed is quite a challenge.

However, this hotel is really beautiful, the rooms are large, and it could not be cleaner. The bathroom was something you'd want to take a photo of: glistening pearly white and green tiles, impeccably clean and modern. Huge tub and separate shower, TWO wash basins! The bed was VERY comfortable! (my back knows the difference; this bed was GREAT).

My room also had a terrace and faced towards the back of the hotel (note: this hotel does not have any noisy street nor immediate neighbor, so all the rooms are quiet and peaceful) The terrace was beautiful and so was the view.

I love this hotel !!!

The hotel is beautiful and our room was lovely - more like a suite than a normal room: we had a balcony with a wonderful view of the mountains, and the bathroom was huge, clean, and definitely well-equipped. However, the double bed was created of two single beds pushed together, which is not ideal, especially when you're on a romantic break! The spa treatments were good, although very clinical, rather than sensual or relaxing. Make SURE you arrive on time for your appointments, and if you're not sure where to go, ask someone! We waited in the hallway for 15 minutes because no one came to get us, and they said it was our fault for not coming to find them, so my massage was cut very short. The staff did not speak much English, mainly Czech or Russian, though it didn't cause too many problems. The food at the restaurant was very good, though the opening hours seemed a bit strange. All in all, it was a lovely hotel, but it lacks the extra polish that would have made it a truly luxurious stay.

We appreciate your comments and are glad you enjoyed your stay in our hotel. The hotel balneological center, which underwent complete reconstruction in 2007, ranks among the most modern facilities of its kind not only in Karlovy Vary. A large number of procedures (Over 500 procedures are provided every day.) necessitates our guests’ punctuality. We are sorry about the inconvenience you experienced during your massage. The issue could have been with the hotel manager who would have made it good.
We pursue the improvement of our employees’ language skills by organizing language courses for them. We believe that you will come back to our hotel one day.

imperial is a bit above the centre of Karlovy Vary, but there is a funicular and two buses.

the curative facilites seem best in the town (i heard the people who stayed in the other hotels), still the doctors seem to work a bit automatically so you'll have to patiently talk to them to get what you really need.

the restaurant is just fabulous. there were evenings when i couldn't move because the quantity of food.

i saw only 2 hotels with some inner territory, Imperial and one of the Bristols, don't remember which one, and Imperial seems much safer of these two because the other one looks straight into the forest.

actually i was staying not in the main building but in a depandance hofman nearby, it's a bit cheaper and also less people around.

We appreciate your opinion. Both hotel restaurants (Prague and Paris) were completely remodeled in 2008 when they acquired a more comfortable and pleasant feel. The Prague Restaurant has introduced a new entertaining program called “Show kitchen” which is very popular with our guests.
All guests are provided with free Internet access. In the rooms they use LAN connection and in communal premises (lounge, café, restaurant or Club Imperial) they use WiFi.
