“Great pension but be careful about the attic rooms”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Pension Athanor was a charming place to stay. Newly renovated, great bathroom with a spa bath. It is not right in the old town but is only a 5 minute walk (down @ 60 stairs) to the bridge to the main square. Lovely and quiet and a good view of teh cathedral and town. Parking available in the little courtyard of the hotel.

We had one of the attic rooms which had wonderful views but had a sloping roof on one half of the room which mean that one person had to sidle round to get to the bed. Ok for one night but it would get annoying if you were staying longer - I would ask for a room on the first floor. The room we had also didn't have a desk, there were chairs and a coffee table. If you have work to do it would be inadequate.

Finally if you have heavy bags be aware that there is no assistance to carry the bags to your room.

Arrived to Cesky Krumlov on a rainy Saturday but still inspired by the beauty of the town. The hostess of the Athanor, Blanka was great! Very friendly and helpful. Stayed in room 3 which is actually 2 separate rooms. Everything is very clean and modern with even the towels being lavender scented. The location is lovely close to the center but away from the tourist traffic. Can't wait to return and stay longer!!

Great place. Freshly renovated, and super friendly service.
Just watch your head if you are tall if you stay in some of the apartments - the ceilings are low.
Quite a hike up and down the hill to town, so if you are not fit, it might be better to stay in town.

No expense was spared on renovating this nice old stone/half-timbered house. It is absolutely beautiful and spotless inside and the craftmanship of the renovaters is absolutely top notch. We had a room on the top floor (two floors of steps - no elevator) with a window overlooking the old town. It was beautiful but the layout was a bit quirky due to the plan having to include many half-timbered beams. They are now exposed and refinished and add to the quaintness of the room. The bathroom was thoroughly modern, spotless, and very tasteful.

The walk to the town square takes five minutes. You can walk direct taking 80 steps or take the easier, circuitous route of the street.

Amenities included free parking, minibar in room, and a very nice breakfast served in a completely renovated and cozy basement. The bed was the most comfortable of our twelve day trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would certainly book here again if we were to return.

We loved our stay at the Pension Athanor in room 3. Even though we don't spend a lot of time in
the room, it's important for us to have a place we look forward to return to after a day of
exploring the cobbled streets of Europe; a place that is attractive, spacious and comfortable.

Athanor is all this. We especially liked the multi-level split to the room with the bedroom being
a quick 3 steps down from the living room. The couch was comfortable a great place to lay out our stuff as we reviewed the day and prepared for the next. The bed was comfortable. The bath was large. The show was great with 2 heads, a large rain shower and a small hand held shower, lovely.

The hotel and room were very quiet. Athanor is in the old part of town, but not on the tourist route. It has the old world charm but is very quiet both inside and out. This was important to us as I am a light sleeper. I slept great only waking once as the morning trash collectors did their rounds. Another thing that added to our good sleep was the double windows and the blinds which blocked most of the morning light.

Breakfast, served in the medival cellar, was continental with the option for eggs any style. I had the scrambled eggs and they were delicious. My wife had the continental breakfast and had enough for breakfast and to make 2 sandwhiches which we had later for lunch.

The only down side was that we could not get the wifi to work with our tablet (this may have been an issue with our tablet but we had not had problems in other hotels on this trip). Our host let
us check our email on the office computer which was nice and sufficient for our needs.

Room Tip: Not all the rooms have showers, some have baths. If you have a preference make sure you book a room...

Athanor is a family-owned old house with 3 fully equipped apartments and 2 rooms.
The owner, Blanka is a very nice and friendly lady, giving all her heart in the service, which is - no surprise - excellent. Our room was on the attic-floor, so huge and comfortable, with an outstanding view to the old town. The pension is extremely clear, with modern furnitures, comfortable bed, floor heating in the bathroom, 300 channels on tv, speed wifi, delicious breakfast with good coffee, all served in the renessaince cellar with a fireplace. The pension has a small garden also, and safe free parking possibilities.
The town with the river and the old houses is unforgettable, like in a fairy tale, we will come back once I hope.

Room Tip: The two rooms are located in the attic level. Room no. 5 has a shower, room no. 4 has whirlpool bath...
