We went to Cesky Krumlov for a 24 hour visit despite being told by natives that the place was over-hyped and too touristy. To a certain extent, they were right but then again, this is an amazing place. The castle grounds, the small winding streets, the river flowing all around the town make for a fun visit. By pure happenstance, we arrived on a Monday afternoon which helped our visit alot as there are NO tours at the castle on Mondays so fewer folks were in town. By 5pm the town was quite empty and we explored the castle grounds and the town before and after a very tasty dinner at a local pub. The castle grounds are open all the time (be sure to check out the bears in the moat) and at night are very dramatic with the lights. Walking the tight, winding streets full of such old houses made us feel like we had gone back in time. On Tuesday morning we were on the first available English tours of the castle and leaving the town at noon just as the place was becoming very full of tourists.
