We came back this fall for a second month-long residency near Cesky Krumlov, after loving it in the spring. Both trips, we spent considerable time hiking and bicycling in Sumava National Park. How-to: Get hiking and bicycling maps from the TI in Cesky Krumlov. Check out the train schedule at jizdnirady.idnez.cz. Take an early train from Cesky Krumlov, allowing a little over an hour to Nova Pec and a bit longer to Ovesna, Cerny Kriz or Nove Udoli. You can go farther if you transfer trains or, in summer only, take one of the park buses. Nova Pec is a tiny town, with very little open outside of summer. The other stops listed here are really just trailheads. You can take a bike on the train, but look for the cars marked with a bicycle image. Keep in mind that there may be as few as two cars outside of summer! You can pay the very inexpensive fare on the train; the conductor will find you in your seat and ask where you're going. You can make it a day trip from Cesky Krumlov, or there are a number of simple but comfortable guesthouses in the Sumava (some closed in the spring and falk, so don't just dropin). You can arrange to hike or bicycle from one guesthouse or train station to another. A great hike for starters is the Bear Trail, best hiked from Cerny Kriz station to Ovesna station, about 15 km. Incredible rock formations on the second half of the hike! A great bicycle ride from starters takes you from Nova Pec to a ferry crossing of Lake Lipno and then to a different train station for the return to town. Beautiful! It is a little complicated to explain this one here, but Vltava Sport in Cesky Krumlov (where you can rent good hybrid bikes) will draw the route for you on a map.

Sumava is beautiful but stay away from Turnerova chata. Prices are high and quality of food is rally poor. Ice cream is OK.

I like it so much, here every thing is national, also you can find quality hotels, by the way, don't forget to get meat with you to make your barbican before you come here because here is nothing but the national

We had relaxing time in this beautiful national park. We visited PleΕ‘nΓ© jezero, which worth to see also from the top of the mountain. I highly recommend to take extra tour to CZ/A border, point is called Plechy, its around 3,5 km, the view is worth the hike.

Short said this park amazed me. We visited it for 4 days and stayed in a pension just above Borova Lada. We drove by care during these days to several places in the park for walks taking around 4 to 5 hours. I must admit that I was amazed parks this size still excisted in central Europe. It's quite, almost no tourism, you can walk for hours without seeing someone. It was really amazing, we're certainly returing to this park. 4 days was way to short, a week minimum should be your goal if you want to visit it.
