“Beautiful Beach, Bedroom (suite), Bar, Bay”
Reviewed April 25, 2012

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing and adventurous beach week at Secret Harbour Resort. This all suite location features condominium living in a resort atmosphere. They have great facilities to accompany your rooms. Some of the best calm, easy, snorkeling we've seen since Tahiti. They have all the standard rentals and also a Dive Shop. The food was great at both restaurants and the location is very close to Red Hook which offers a lot of additional options for dining. Pool is well maintained, large, and set away by the condo's on the hill. We had a condo on the hill and the view was beautiful and a very short walk to the beach.

Room Tip: Rooms in our condo (bldg 7) were very quiet and great views of the whole bay. We had a 1 bedroom wh...

Great snorkeling rate from the beach, good relaxing. We didn't try the restaurant. The people renting stuff on the beach were very rude to visitors...we almost left because they were so rude. The bathrooms are nice and free. Great little location for a day at the beach. Hotel is dated.

We just returned from a 1-week stay at Secret Harbour after a friend recommended it. The accommodations are condominiums; either beachfront or located on the hillside with an ocean view. We reserved a 1-bedroom beachfront studio and were upgraded at check-in. The accommodations are not luxurious but they are clean, quiet, the staff is friendly and there are two restaurants and a dive shop on property. The beachfront is one of the best in St. Thomas. The views are amazing, the beach isn't crowded and you can snorkel right from the beach. There are plenty of beach chairs for registered guests and they do monitor for non-guests trying to use them. The beach is kept clean; the hotel employees rake the sand every morning and the water is crystal clear. The hotel is located on the quiet east end of the island, away from the touristy Charlotte Amalie, and a short taxi ride from the village of Red Hook. There are several restaurants in Red Hook as well as the marina and ferry to St. Johns. We were very fortunate early into our trip to connect with Jerry, a wonderful taxi driver and tour guide. He runs frequent trips from Secret Harbour and even provided his cell number. We called on him several times during our stay and he committed to be available for a very early morning ride to the airport for our return flight. He showed up on time and delivered us safely to the airport. Even at the early hour he was pleasant and shared some history of the island. If you want to be near the tourist spots, shopping, cruise terminal and night life, then we would recommend you stay at one of the larger chain resorts in Charlotte Amalie. If you want a laid back, relaxing, true island experience, then this may be the place for you.

Room Tip: Building 3 is oceanfront and has some of the best views

We are sitting on our lovely balcony post sunset here at Secret Harbour. We just enjoyed a fantastic meal at the Sunset Grille Beach Bar. Saw a turtle poking his head up in the water, just past the rail.) The snorkeling is great right off this beach, we've enjoyed great meals (ahi Nachos, Wahoo sandwich, blue cheese burger, calamari salad) and enjoy making our own light breakfasts, lunches, and frozen drinks!

Yeas the rooms are a bit "retro" but very clean, spacious, and well equipped. We arrived a bit before checkin, we disappointed we couldn't get in to a room right away, but they graciously found room in a fridge for our groceries, set us up with the changing room, and soon we were o the lovely beach. DO get a beachfront suite here, you are never more than a moment away from the ocean. This is our third stay here, but we hadn't been back for 5 years, and were wondering how well the place had held up. If anything it's in better shape, a testimony to ongoing maintenance. If you need the Ritz or the W this isn't your spot. If you love being on the edge of the Caribbean ocean, in a unit where you can make yourself totally at home, this is it!

Really enjoyed the peaceful ambience, no crowds, and great beach. Wonderful to have no problem getting space on the sand relaxing, with swimming or snorkeling just steps away. Entire staff was extraordinarily polite and helpful. We were in one of the condos in building 7...a bit dated but nice. The one major complaint we had was cockroaches. If it hadn't been for that it would have been a 5 star stay.

We had 4 nights on St. Thomas before ferrying over to Tortola. I selected Secret Harbour because of reviews. Glad I did for many reasons. We rented a jeep from Hertz at the airport drove out of the chaos of Charlotte Amalie across island to less hectic Red Hook area where Secret Harbour Resort is located. Loved that end, quaint small marina town. A bonus too was, prior to leaving were able to drop our Hertz rental off on that end of the island, at Sapphire Beach Resort nearby and Hertz employee just got in our jeep and brought us to the Red Hook ferry with our bags, way convenient. Secret Harbour has a beautiful cove beach, clean with a nice reef to snorkel, calm safe clear water. I felt like the beach was private, peaceful and tended well by the resort. There are free beach lounge chairs for guests only, a floating raft in the ocean offshore and a beach shower. The beach restaurant had good food and friendly competent staff. We rented a beachfront condo (#131) which I would highly suggest paying a little extra for because they are literally on the beach and just fun. The condos across the road were a hike uphill and less inviting. I was able to sit on the balcony and watch the kids swimming in the ocean, we were within hearing distance so they're that close. The condo decor is dated, this is true. However they are clean, spacious, comfortable and the kitchens are set up properly. We had a one bedroom with a comfortable king and put the kids on the pull out couch, it worked nicely. The pool was huge, area was clean and well tended if a bit bland. It had a white concrete basic 80's look with white generic loungers/chairs and the hot tub was cold. I wouldn't have felt inclined to hang out at the pool but the kids enjoyed. Overall I really liked the set up, the location near Red Hook and the beautiful beach. My tips are to rent a vehicle (taxi rates are out of control), go grocery shopping immediately (restaurant prices are so high) and cook most of your own meals, bring your own snorkel gear and eat one meal a day at beachfront restaurant because it was pleasant there right on the beach.

Room Tip: Beachfront condo for sure!

My family and I, along with our friend and her family recently vacationed in St. Thomas and stayed at The Secret Harbour Resort. Our friend arrived ealier than we did and was informed that the owner of the unit she had reserved had decided to stay on an additional day. She would have to stay in another unit for one night, then get a different unit the next day, not the one she had reserved. Needless to say she was not pleased since we had planned for our families to stay together. The management informed her that the owner of the unit was entitled to stay on an additional day and that nothing could be done. Our friend ended up staying elsewhere. We did not have any issues with our unit. It was well maintained and clean with beautiful views of the beach and pool. I reserved a unit with a pool view, so be prepared to climb alot of steps ! The beach was smaller than it appeared online, and the snorkeling was fair to good. The water was a spectacular color and calm. The restaurant was good, but be prepared for steep restaurant prices in general throughout the island. The supermarkets are also very expensive since most things, fruit included ,are shipped in. The taxi's charge $5 per person per trip, so it can get expensive. Look into renting a car, it may be cheaper. If you chose to drive, be aware that driving is on the left ! We took a sailboat excursion to St..John's which included breakfast (no coffee ) , lunch, and snorkeling which was great fun. We also kayaked, hiked, and snorkeled through the Mangrove's with Eco Tour which I highly recommend. Overall it was a fun trip .

Room Tip: Units up top with pool view are less expensive with steps to climb but view is worth it
