“An overnight stopover”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

We were recommended the keleti resort, because we had to overnight in Tonga Tapu on our way to Haapai. After initial enquiries that relied to very promptly we booked all all out transfers were organised for us very efficiently. It's about a half hour drive from the airport. Initial impressions were that it was a little run down, but work is being done to improve things and we couldn't fault the service and friendly helpful staff.
The rooms were clean and tidy and the beds comfy.
The beach and outlying rocks are spectacular, with stacks of pancake rocks and busy blow holes, but just 5 minutes walk to the left takes you to a beautiful sandy beach and lagoon for swimming.

In response to some of the other reviews - we stayed at Keleti for 4 nights in July and never saw a single cockroach the whole time. Also we enjoyed swimming and snorkeling at the tiny private beach. Low or mid tide is best. The rocks are great and Vini and his family were really friendly and helpful.

We stayed at Keleti in July, and whilst the weather wasn't to good a great time was had by all.
Keleti is by no means a 5 star destination but what it lacks in luxury and amenities it makes up in charm and great people. Vini the owner went to great trouble to organise a comprehensive tour of Tongatapu by enlisting the help of his sister Pina who makes a great tour guide and showed us a great day out.
Our room was basic, but it was bright, airy and above all clean. the separate Fale's were spaced well so you were not disturbed by other guests, and a short walk from the main guest area. Eating breakfast on the balcony over looking the surrounding reef revealed one of Tonga's jewels...... Humpback Whales breaching and tail slapping less than 500 metres from the breakfast table, pretty special.

We stayed for one night as we were in transit to Ha'apai. We visited for lunch 3 years ago and thought it looked like a nice place which is why we booked for one night.
We arrived at 4pm after a TOP20 ride from the airport - thanks Ana. Immediately on check in we were asked what we wanted for dinner...we had no idea as all we wanted to do was strip off and hit the beach. So we asked for some time to decide and then were taken to our room, where we were asked to make a decision! We wondered what happened to island time.....
The beach is beautiful - as are the blow holes. However it was pretty rough and swimming was not an option as we valued our lives. The room was small for 2 twins but clean. We had a bathroom next door which was ok but had the scariest water heater we've ever seen! Could've done with a bit of an extra clean. The waves at night are so loud we thought it was an earthquake! We were the only people at the resort so had 4 staff hanging around us in the bar which was great to start with but after one beer, we had trouble finding somebody to serve us again so resorted to acting barmaids ourselves....
Nice staff, altho the security guy needed to be a bit more awake at 6am when we left. Wouldn't stay again though

Hello!
Have been in Keleti Resort October 2011. NOT 2012 (could not choose 2011!?)

The owners and crew are fantastic, friendly and helpful. we had a nice talking! the food by restaurant is very good! the place is wonderful, with amazing sunset view!

BUT....the room was full of cockroaches...tiny,small,babys,big,bigger,biggest..in the bathroom...next to toilet, INSIDE the toilette-paper... :o( during the day i was on tour...and when it starts getting dark, you could here the walking cockroaches...that was such a disgusting moment...i couldn´t find sleep. once i hear some walking next to my head (in the bed)...i had to get up in the dark, to get the light on, that is next to entry door. and there was a cockroach next to my head-pillow....they have been everywhere..inside the chest of drawers (the place where you will find the holy bible etc)...i had to say, this conditions destroyed my litte "paradise" feeling... i was happy during the day...and i stayed as long as possible outside the room...having very cool talkings with the securityguard and watching the stars. but once i had to go inside...YES, i had to say that i hate cockroaches. MAYBE this makes my assessment sounds like HORROR...but i felt this way.

The assessment is 95% about the room and conditions on this page. thats why i give "deficient assessment". the room was ok, with fridge etc. there has been a street of ants next to the shower, but this was ok for me. i was expecting something like this. but the cockroaches...haha... :o(

ALL TOGETHER:

CREW/FOOD/NATURE = AMAZING

ROOM: (and thats a BIG point by choosing a hotel!) many cockroaches....everywhere, all night!

We love staying at Keleti, our first year was just the two of us, this year we took the four kids as well. The kids loved it as much as we did, the tranquil hide out is just perfect! Thanks to the wonderful staff, you make the place what it is.
For those of you that need a 4 or 5 star resort, Tonga is not for you, for all kiwi's who love chillin, this is the place to do it!

Room Tip: The rooms are not why you go there!

I spent 3 days, 2 nights at Keleti Resort and had a very peaceful, relaxing time. It's on the south side of Tongatapu quite a distance from anything else. If you want a spot where you can watch the waves crash on the reef and feel quite remote from Nuku'alofa, this is the spot for you. If you want to be within walking distance of shops and restaurants, you'll be sorely disappointed. You can get into town - either Vinny or Liz will take you, or you can use your own vehicle - but walking would be near impossible. The staff were very friendly. I enjoyed all the meals I had there. Keleti is quite good value for money.
