“2nd time and just as good”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This is the second time I have stayed here this year.

The welcome back was as if we were old friends, warm and friendly.

Last time I reviewed the rooms more than the food, so this one is more to do with the food than the room.

Last time as I did this time, I stayed for three nights, normally whenever I stay at a hotel I normally only manage 1 meal as either I am disappointed or not enough choice. However, here I ate at the Coach and Horses each night.

The food specials varied each night and even the set menu had enough choice. The food was excellantly cooked and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

Breakfast was a joy as well, plenty on offer and full of flavour.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in and would heatily recommend them to anyone visiting the area.

“Majorly disappointing”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Lunch 26th October. Pub dirty and very cold .Wanted to sit in a ‘reserved area’, not allowed and nobody turned up. Carpet unhoovered .Was served with a Guinness that was all head.
Very poor game casserole and an insipid looking and tasting Thai meat dish. Upsides generous portions, good service .The whole place is very tired and shabby with a seeming total lack of effort .Rubbish.Avoid.

“Excellent accommodation,food and hospitality.”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

My brothers and siisters in laws all stayed at this lovely Coaching Inn whilst visiting us from Northern Ireland. They all commented about the lovely accommodation they had and the excellent food together with the hospitality of owners and staff. Well done to all concerned. If the occasions arises again, they stated they would not hesitate to book this olde world Inn again.

“£4.40 for a pot of tea for two!”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

Stopped by on spec lots of advertising outside for cheap food. The cheap food was poor value. Then when the bill arrives... £4.40 for two tea's!

It was a shame because the meat in the steak sandwich was tender and well cooked, it just had no flavour. The "side salad" was just leaves and we think the coleslaw was pre packed, it certainly didn't taste like it was made fresh. A bit disappointing and not a cheap lunch in the end once the cost of the drinks was factored in.

“Extraordinarily good food at an 'ordinary' looking pub”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

Found this pub when doing a quick google of reviews when passing the area at lunchtime on a bank hol. Comfortingly normal looking pub (not chain/gastro/trendy/over-done) but with full carpark. (Publican noticed us hovering and came out to show us a space.) We had a really lovely duck dish and a blade of beef dish, which was incredibly tender. They offered and brought baby a little dish of steamed veg along side the food I'd brought with us and didn't mind the mess either! No time for puds or starter as children's attention span limited after a full weekend but they looked delicious too. Very warm and friendly owners and staff. We'll detour past here on repeat journies to visit again.
