Fee: Yes
Owner description: Nestled just off the A30 in Pool, near Redruth in the former mining heart of Cornwall, there are 19 acres of eclectic fun to explore. State-of-the-art exhibitions, climb-on sculptures, gardens of epic diversity, a giant adventure playscape for kids, art and craft studios and a funky café in the old carpenter’s workshop. With swathes of green outdoor space for warm, sunny days and ever-curious indoor space when it’s wet, Heartlands is all-year round, all-weather entertainment for anyone and everyone. Go see, go play, go wow.

I have visited Heartlands on numerous occasions since its opening last year, for our family it is a welcome attraction to the area. It has a great play area for kids of all ages and a lovely river to paddle in with the kids in the summer. They hold events throughout the year that are pitched at a fair price and sometimes free. We went on the Lizard Carriage ride a few months back and that was lovely. They have a cafe snack shack and some boutiques on site as well as plants and a gift shop. Too much to mention. Great local events are in the calendar too - well worth a visit to let the kids run off steam and lose a few hours :-)

Driving down to St Ives each year for Easter we tend to stop off at a local National Trust or English Heritage property en route. We say leaflets advertising Heartlands last year but this was the first time we had stopped. It was a very cold windy day but was worth the visit. A part from the car park it is free to visit. There is a large adventure playground near the entrance and an interesting sensory garden with interesting historic facts about mining around the world. On a warm day you could have spent hours out there with children. Inside there is the usual shop selling local Cornish gifts and souvenirs. The museum was very interesting with some audio displays telling the history of the miners. There are a few shops within the complex although many seemed empty. As we visited during the Easter holidays car parking was dearer than usual but there were activities planned for children to take part in both outside and inside. I would recommend that this would be an ideal place to bring a picnic on a nice sunny day .

First time visit to this intriguing sounding attraction, and we were pleasantly surprised at what we found. Beautiful landscaped gardens, telling the story of mining around the world, an exploratory museum with different facets, craft shops and an extensive adventure playground which our toddlers and too-cool-for-school teens enjoyed. The restaurant food was delicious, although more expensive than we would have expected, and they were busy for a freezing cold day in April with a 40 minute wait for food (not convinced they would cope in the height of summer). Would recommend despite this, and probably visit again.

Leave the Cornish coast for half a day and hit Heartlands.
The outdoor okay area kept three kids busy for a couple of hours even in bitterly cold wind.
Take in some local heritage, the mining story of the the local area is nicely interpreted
Red River Cafe does superb paninis and coffee.
There's also a gaggle of little shops.

A great free attraction for alk the family. There's a good adventure playground for the kids (and kids at heart), an exhibition on Cornish mining, an arts & crafts centre as well as a well stocked gift shop and restaurant. Well worth a visit
