“Misleading Advertising”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

We were unfortunately drawn into booking this hotel for lunch on account of the menu on the website which offered starter, soup, main course and desert for a fixed price. It seemed good value. On arrival, the same menu as was advertised on the website was on the table. Suddenly a typed menu was thrust into our hands with the soup course now offered only as one of the starters. On enquiring why the advertised offer did not equate with the menu, we were told by one of two rather gruff waiters that what was on the website and on the printed menu on the table was a mistake!!! Unbelievably bad PR! The food was acceptable to poor but the surly attitude of those serving was unacceptable. The bill was presented was presented before we had even finished our deserts. Clearly diners are unwelcome.

To compound matters, having sent an email to the hotel to complain - and having been told by reception that it was being passed to the management - after seven weeks, we have not received a reply. Clearly the management perform to the same standard as those serving in the dining room.

The Bothwell/Hamilton area has an abundance of very good quality restaurants. It seems inconceivable that anyone would choose this one more than once.

I've stayed at the Bothwell Bridge many times, and I have always enjoyed it.

The hotel, while not new, is an interesting place. It has a garden out back, and the rooms are quaintly decorated. The service is superb from all corners, and it is in an excellent location in the middle of a nice neighborhood with a good pub and a park all within easy walking distance. Breakfast is terrific, as is the restaurant in the evenings.

It's true that the furnishings are a bit old, and that finding your way to your room through the maze of hallways can be a bit of a challenge, but the Bothwell Bridge is still one of my favorite hotels anywhere.

Having stayed at this establishment many times over many years whilst on business I recently returned having not stayed there for over two years.
The hotel has not been updated in any way for quite a few years and consequently the rooms are very tired and dated, decoratively.
The bathrooms also require modernising.
The reception staff come across as dour and not very friendly at all.
On the plus side the buffet breakfast is excellent and the waiting staff are efficient and friendly.

Room Tip: Rooms on front elevation overlooking village are preferable.

After much deliberation, we chose the Bothwell Bridge Hotel to host my 50th birthday luncheon. Initially everything was fine with the information we were provided with. However, about two weeks from the big day, I would have quite happily cancelled this and gone elsewhere. This was down to reception staff giving us completely wrong information with respect to menus etc. These errors were only discovered when speaking to Steven, our Maitre De for the afternoon. Thanks goodness we called to speak to him, or only the good Lord knows what would have happened. Eventually, Ben, the chef became involved in the discussions at such short notice, again down to reception staff. It was a case of too many people with their fingers in the pie, all trying to be as helpful as possible. We were very lucky indeed that the function was saved by Steven and Ben, the epitome of professionalism! Out of the almost 90 guests who were in attendance, we did not receive one single bad report about the way things were handled prior to, during or after the function. Everything went so smoothly. There was also a wedding on in the hotel that day and whoever was the maitre De for that function had their work cut out, as the guests were not happy to leave their drinks unfinished, to attend the wedding ceremony. I am glad to say that we had no such issues and when called, I admit a couple of times as people were sitting in corners, and didn't hear the call the first time. The food could not be any better, and that was with a four course lunch. The second course, with it being St Andrew's Day, we had haggis, tatties and neeps, just as a Scottish touch to the meal. One guest at our table was vegetarian and refused this course. The next thing we knew, the waiter appeared with vegetarian haggis. One other guest had major dietary issues, but for the kitchen staff, there was no issue. They handled such matters with the utmost professionalism and efficiency. Well done to Ben and his staff. The waiting staff, again were very efficient and friendly, and absolutely no fault could be found in their service nd friendliness with everyone, another area commented on by guests. My final thanks must go to Steven. This gentleman in superb at his job, and along with Ben ensured the meal was exactly what WE wanted, not what was easy for them to give us considering that there were 2 large functions that day. Steven went all out to ensure that what was requested was there, helped set out the placement of tables etc., and ensured the day passed with no problems. To end, I recommend this hotel with no hesitation. Food -1st class, Service - 1st class and Co - ordination exemplary. Steven and Ben, thank you for pulling out all the stops to ensure that everyone attending, enjoyed their afternoon which flew past too quickly. I am sure that this is down to the efficiency, and co-ordination of staff, by both of these gentlemen. We went back to the hotel on the following Thursday, which was my actual birthday. Walking into the restaurant, was like meeting up with old friends due on the welcome given to us by the staff. Well done everyone! We would have NO hesitation in using you again, or indeed recommending you to other people looking for a place to host a function!! 5 stars PLUS must be given from this end.

Went to Bothwell Bridge hotel to bring in the New Year with friends. Had a fabulous time all round and would highly recommend this hotel. The meal was excellent and the service first class with the staff doing a great job with a smile on their faces at a particularly busy time.

The New Year party was also very good with the entertainment in keeping with 'Bringing in the Bells'. A great atmosphere all round.

Staying overnight after the party was a good decision and the hearty full Scottish breakfast the following morning was also first class with again the staff (some of whom had been working the previous evening). doing a great job.

All in all a very good visit.

Room Tip: We were at the rear of the hotel in room 209 which did not have a view at all. Not that it affected...

Pleasantly surprised at just how good the food was. It was very good indeed. The staff were extremely helpful. We will definitely go back. Have always overlook the hotel, on other peoples opinions. Glad we booked and tried. There were eleven in our party and it was my sister's 40th Birthday. Everyone loved it. It Really was a fantastic night. Venue, effort of presentation of the function suite, the staff, the entertainment, band, disco and piper. The dance floor was full and we all joined in. Thank you to all at the Bothwell Bridge for a memorable Hogmanay Party.

My daughter and I stayed overnight in this hotel on 21st Dec and found everything to our satisfaction. The hotel was very busy catering for large coach parties but were pleased with the room, the service and the food.

Room Tip: Our room was 207 and was quite a distance from the main foyer and included negotiating several fligh...
