“Perfect for us in every way”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We have just come back from a lovely 2 weeks at La Foret (St Julien des Landes, Vendee) and we have had a fantastic time. We stayed in a new 2 bed/2 bath Vista property with Keycamp. Firstly I would like to say that the Penny and Malcolm were wonderful and so helpful with their advice and tips for the area. There were 3 adults and a teenager in the party. What I loved about this site was that it was so authentic. The buildings had character and were not white blocks and bright signs. The site also has both Yelloh and Eurocamp on the site and I believe the chateau have a few of their own mobiles for rent too. There are three fishing lakes here which I believe are good but note that the newly built Grand-Defi (zipwire and tree climbing company) has some wires over one of the lakes. My husband and I tried the Grand-Defi and had a great time. On the site, we had some very nice pizzas and burgers from the take away (a little pricey but my pizza was delicious. The village is an easy ten minute walk away via a little shaded pathway. Everyone I spoke to in my ancient schoolgirl French was lovely and encouraging. My adult son had his haircut in the village for 10.50 Euros (he said he would have paid over £20 at home) and it was a good cut too. The produce in the village boulanger was wonderful and on Sunday mornings there is a van set up in the village selling fresh seafood (mussels and oysters) which looked nice. On site there is the smallest shop I have ever seen which sells basics (loo rolls, dried produce, drinks etc). The nearest supermarket is in La Mothe Achard (Super-U). It is open 9.30 - 7.30 Mon - Sat and 9.30-12.30 Sunday. Very like a large Tesco/Sainsburys. Very good selection of fresh fish/meats for the bbq. On sit we particularly liked the way the site was laid out with all the companies properties mixed with touring pitches. There is plenty to do on this site if you look for it. If you are looking for a lively, action packed site with football tournaments, competitions, discos etc then I think there will be better sites for your needs. If you are looking for a site where you can relax, go with your own timetable and really chill out then I would have no hesitation in recommending this site. there is some evening entertainment laid on but it is very low key. There is free WiFi bit is is restricted to the reception area. Another thing I liked is that there is a bouncy castle set up afternoons and evenings for the little ones but there is no charge. there are also trampolines in addition to the usuaI playground equiplement, We returned yesterday and will be booking for next year very soon.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights at the end of July 2012 as we were unable to get onto the campsite we originally wanted until two days after our arrival in France. We had booked many many months before our travel and explained the size of our caravan (twin axle). On arrival, we were met with a queue of motor home and caravans before us. My husband went to book in at reception. He was gone for some time and on his return he said it was absolute chaos in reception. Our pitch was very very difficult to get into, having to reverse through the equivalent of a five bar gate down between two hedges for approx 25-30 foot and then round a huge tree right in the middle of our pitch. As you can imagine we were completely in the shade throughout our two night stay. We did not have the correct French connection for electric hook up so went without electric for the first night as no shops or supermarkets were open on Sundays to buy the connector. We were unable to errect our canopy due to little room, we had to tie branches up to stop them scratching the caravan and had sticky pine needles all over the car and caravan. The showers were adequate, although dirty each time used. No toilet paper in any cubicle and nothing to dry hands on after washing. We went for a walk and there seemed to be lots for the kids with pool, golf, zip wire fun in the woods and fishing. There was a bouncy castle for the smaller kids by the bar area. We did have a drink at the bar but did not use the restaurant on site. When walking around the site, we spotted a pitch which was empty for our duration and it was very spacious and not under trees. Had we have been allocated this pitch our experience may have been a whole lot different. We will not return to this site in the future as it's not for us.

This is a big campsite with great plots and wonderful surroundings. The owner and the staff are friendly and helpful all the time. It you go with teens, don't miss the adventure park. At night it was a bit noisy before midnight but as we were on holidays, we didn't really mind.

Stayed here in early July 2012 and the site itself is perfect for relaxing. The caravan(booked with Keycamp) was great and well equipped. The only problem is that it is in a very very quiet area and if the sun isn't shining there isn't much to do. There are some nice beaches nearby if the weather is nice. If you have any doubts about the weather then it is probably best to stay somewhere with more local attractions.

We have just got back from staying at Chateau la Foret, St Julien des Landes, Vendee, France. We booked using Keycamp, but Eurocamp and Yelloh also use this site. It is a great site, we stayed in a 3 bedroom static caravan, which was very clean and unilke previous caravans was fully equiped. The caravans and tents are well spaced out and have great old trees in between them. Everyone is really friendly, especially our Keycamp reps Malcolm and Penny. The Keycamp office has a selection of games, books and toys to use during your stay, as well as info on the local area. The Chateau and the Count are great, the Count ran a wine tasting event in the bar and he is always running about around the site, making sure all is well. There is lots of space to run and play and free stuff to do on site, like table tennis, swimming pool, bouncy castle and tramolines. You can hire bikes, go fishing in the lakes on site or hire the tennis court. It is just a really friendly place with lots to do.
