We have just come back from a lovely 2 weeks at La Foret (St Julien des Landes, Vendee) and we have had a fantastic time. We stayed in a new 2 bed/2 bath Vista property with Keycamp. Firstly I would like to say that the Penny and Malcolm were wonderful and so helpful with their advice and tips for the area. There were 3 adults and a teenager in the party. What I loved about this site was that it was so authentic. The buildings had character and were not white blocks and bright signs. The site also has both Yelloh and Eurocamp on the site and I believe the chateau have a few of their own mobiles for rent too. There are three fishing lakes here which I believe are good but note that the newly built Grand-Defi (zipwire and tree climbing company) has some wires over one of the lakes. My husband and I tried the Grand-Defi and had a great time. On the site, we had some very nice pizzas and burgers from the take away (a little pricey but my pizza was delicious. The village is an easy ten minute walk away via a little shaded pathway. Everyone I spoke to in my ancient schoolgirl French was lovely and encouraging. My adult son had his haircut in the village for 10.50 Euros (he said he would have paid over £20 at home) and it was a good cut too. The produce in the village boulanger was wonderful and on Sunday mornings there is a van set up in the village selling fresh seafood (mussels and oysters) which looked nice. On site there is the smallest shop I have ever seen which sells basics (loo rolls, dried produce, drinks etc). The nearest supermarket is in La Mothe Achard (Super-U). It is open 9.30 - 7.30 Mon - Sat and 9.30-12.30 Sunday. Very like a large Tesco/Sainsburys. Very good selection of fresh fish/meats for the bbq. On sit we particularly liked the way the site was laid out with all the companies properties mixed with touring pitches. There is plenty to do on this site if you look for it. If you are looking for a lively, action packed site with football tournaments, competitions, discos etc then I think there will be better sites for your needs. If you are looking for a site where you can relax, go with your own timetable and really chill out then I would have no hesitation in recommending this site. there is some evening entertainment laid on but it is very low key. There is free WiFi bit is is restricted to the reception area. Another thing I liked is that there is a bouncy castle set up afternoons and evenings for the little ones but there is no charge. there are also trampolines in addition to the usuaI playground equiplement, We returned yesterday and will be booking for next year very soon.
