The length of the aerial line broke the world record, and its construction was also completed in a record-breaking timeframe of ten months. The project was designed and implemented by Doppelmayr/Garaventa, an Austrian-Swiss company that is a world leader in aerial tramway design. A cable car ride to the Monastery takes just 12 minutes. By land it would take 40 minutes along the steep, winding road through the Vorotan River Gorge. As one tramway cabin reaches the Tatev Terminal, the other arrives at the Halidzor Terminal. Each cabin holds 25 passengers and a tram driver, and each hour 200 passengers ride this unique tramway. Three massive supports divide the ropeway into four sections, with the longest at 2.7 kilometers. From this section, passengers can enjoy a magnificent view as they approach the Monastery.

“Spectacular aerial tramway”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Get there early to avoid crowds later in the day. You are swept up in a modern tramway. At the highest tower you feel like you are flying as soon as you cross the tower and are swooping down over a vast gorge. Spectacular scenery, comfortable ride, not expensive. The tram ends at Tatev Monastery complex which is a treat in itself. Though you can drive the whole way to the monastery it is so worth it to pay a bit and fly on the tram.

“A must see”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

If you have came long way to Armenia, then take the ride and go to Tatev; or if you are on your way to Artsakh, then stop a bit and take the wings of Tatev. Enormous Nature in Summer, specially in Autumn. Yes it is the longest ropeway and it is in the Guiness book, but better than that... If you have ever been in Switzerland you may think you are there again for minutes.
You can see several villages from the wings, everything in detail.
The cabins are very safe and always in maintenance, so do not worry about that!
You will have a guide with you and he/she will explain everything you see.
If you do not want to see Tatev monastery than just go to the wings and enjoy the nature.. It is worth it :)

PS: Do not go on Mondays... it is the maintenance day...

“A Must See In Armenia”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

There is a reason why this is in the Guinness Book of World records, apart from the statistics (longest tram in the world).

The experience left my family and I speechless. We took the tram one-way from the Tatev Monastery to Halidzor. The moment you leave the station, you are in awe, going over a massive gorge among the imposing mountains of Tatev. Any photos you see, do not do justice to the views.

Tip: We tried going round trip from Halidzor to visit Tatev Monastery and there was a two hour wait. Instead, we visited the monastery (the winding roads are fun and worth the experience), then took a one-way back to Halidzor with no wait.
