So we are 5 days into our trip. This is EXACTLY what i needed. So, i tend to work insane hours and i needed a vacation to reset and recharge. This place is perfect. first off the room is spectacular. The view is unbelievable, and from our back porch to the waterline is less than 100 feet. I've never been THIS CLOSE to the water, the blue, bluuuuuuuuuue water. The beach is beautiful, sandy, calm, palm trees for shade if you want it. also very private, rare for Antigua. This is a really secluded resort so you wont be hounded on the beach to buy this and that. And the resort doesnt try to up sell you like crazy like our last Sandals experience. The resort is very quiet and relaxing, no DJ blasting all day / night, the pool is quiet with a nice waterfall. temp is perfect. ocean temp is perfect. And the vegetation and landscaping on the resort is second to none. Beautiful. I've been able to relax and re charge very well.
Back to the room. its big. the bathroom is huge! huge 2 head shower, double sinks, mirrors everywhere, giant sauna tub. Bed is super comfy, and i'm picky. been sleeping like a rock. but the view and location, best we've ever had and we've stayed at Sandals 5 times, Excellence twice, Club Med and others. mirrored windows so people on the beach cant see into your room. nice touch. No in room alcohol unless you order it, which is extra. Internet is slow but i've been able to check mail and do basic surfing just fine. Cable has a ton of channels.
Restaurants. only 3 plus an afternoon grill, but often 1 or 2 of the restaurants are closed. Food is usually really good, sometimes great. Dont miss the Roti at Gauguin for lunch, and Gauguin at night for dinner is spectacular. We are going to Ismay's tomorrow. the restaurant service is a bit slow and hit or miss. Not as good as Excellence or Sandals but not bad. staff is mostly really good here. The resort Manager Chris is exceptional. Hardest working manager i've ever seen, and super friendly. He might serve you lunch or call you a car or just generally make sure your trip is going better than expected. Stuart who manages Gauguin is excellent as well. We did dinner on the beach, highly recommended. it was magical and my wife even saw a shooting star during dinner (i swear) i saw one 2 nights ago from the beach. And the full moon here is bright as dusk. We saw a Leatherback Turtle laying eggs right off the beach last night. a once in a lifetime experience.
Dont miss the snorkel trip with Sean, its extra but worth every penny. The snorkeling in Antigua isnt the best but its enjoyable, but Sean and his crewman went our of their way to make it a blast of a trip. the sailing excellent.
Lots of honeymooners here and they all seem to love it to. Adults only, no kids. other couples have been really friendly. great drinks at the bar. This is exactly what i needed. I dont want to leave but i'll be refreshed and recharged when i do. Oh, the spa is excellent as well. 5 Stars.
