At first I was a little concerned about how quiet it was. It was not super high end, but very good for what it is. Perfect for our honeymoon. The little cabanas with the splash pool gave a very exclusive feel to our stay. The beach is beautiful.

The staff is super friendly, beware they're on island time, but coming from a "fast pace" lifestyle, it became appreciated and kinda funny.

The food was absolutely excellent, I can't say a single bad thing about one meal I had there... breakfast, lunch, dinner for over a week.

Overall quiet and relaxing, far from the fist pumping mega resorts of Cancun.

PS. Go on Sean's sailboat for snorkeling, sailing, lunch and drinks... you'll see him on the beach.

Room Tip: Refilling the minibar in our room was not part of our "All inclusive" package.

Just returned for a very relaxing and enjoyable week at Galley Bay. We stayed in a premium beachfront suite. It offered a great view and was most comfortable. The entire resort is lovely and well manicured and maintained. Of course areas could use updating, however everything was as depicted from the website and photos. We selected Galley Bay because it met all of the criteria we were looking for in booking this vacation. The resort is small and intimate, so it wouldn't be overly crowded and uncomfortable. Adult only was a top priority along with the amenities of a spa, tennis, jogging path and golf (off site); everything we were looking for. We were impressed with everything as it was exactly as we expected. What was disappointing was the service and the most disappointing was the food. The management staff was warm, friendly, welcoming and most accommodating. With the exception of a few, the service staff for the most part were not very accommodating. If you wanted or needed something you had to ask for it or get it yourself. Virtually, there is no pro-active service everything is re-active service. The food was fair to poor. There is no accommodating requests - if you ask for something to be prepared rare or eggs soft and runny - they refuse to do so. All of the meat and fish was overcooked. The only time the fish was prepared to our request was at the Barefoot Grill, where we instructed the chef to remove the fish from the grill - she was not happy with the request, but did accommodate. There is no "local food or culture" prepared or served - everything for the most part is like eating in the states at a typical restaurant. There is little to nothing very healthy, everything is served with sauce on it and very few vegetables (always cooked in butter). Fruit is served only at breakfast and nothing local - with the exception on one day fresh mangos were on the buffet. The service at the restaurants is poor - everyone is unhappy and for the most part just going through the motions. If you make special request or ask them to deviate from the menu, it is with much anguish and often not satisfactory. All of this was true for Seagrape and Gauguin; we did not eat at Ismay's (it was only open on one night of our stay). The best food was the Barefoot Grill which is only lunch - but at least the menu changed daily and we could have a say in how we wanted it prepared. If you want something to drink at the pool, you have to get up and get it yourself, there is no wait staff. This was a bit of a disappointment - after all you are on vacation, you expect some level of service at the pool. Even sitting in the bar area, you must get up to order your drinks - there is no wait staff in the bar, there is only a bartender.

There is a new manager on staff, Chris. We assume he was brought in to clean up the attitudes and the service model. It shouldn't take long to turn the service around, but the food preparation and menus need a complete overhaul.

I should end this on a few high notes. We were celebrating a milestone birthday and were treated to a complimentary bottle of champagne and a nice note in our suite. We were greeted everyday by management by our first names and always asked how our stay was going. The coffee machine in the Seagrape bar area is awesome for morning coffee (so much better than the coffee served in the restaurant). I wanted to bring that darn machine home with us - we loved it. It was a great time, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The resort was not full and the lack of people around was very relaxing and peaceful. Would we go back? Probably not. We would most likely try something with a higher level of food and service. Would we recommend it - ABSOLUTELY. The new management was brought in for a reason and it will get better and it will turn around sooner rather than later.

I had not been on a vacation alone with my husband in a very long time, so for our 25th wedding anniversary we decided to get away and chose Galley Bay after much research. We were not disappointed. The staff were very warm and friendly. The grounds were beautiful & well taken care of. We made great use of the jogging trail and bikes. Each trip around were unexpected nature finds and scenery. We stayed in a cottage which overlooked the lake and it was peaceful & beautiful and we made good use of the private pool for afternoon swim. The whole trip we felt like we were the only couple at the resort. The food was the best I have ever had at a resort. We really enjoyed how they did not rush your meals and timed each course perfectly. The view from the Gauguin Restaurant was mesmerizing. Our only regret is that we had to leave! We are already planning our trip for next year!

Room Tip: When booking a cottage, request one with a good view.

We recently spent a very relaxing 10 days at Galley Bay.
Our accommodation in a Deluxe Beachfront ground-floor room was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The beach and setting were idyllic.
We enjoyed long lazy lunches and dinners at the Gauguin restaurant and a special meal at Ismays.
As we were leaving a programme of painting and refurbishment was underway in readiness for the next season.
Exactly the holiday we were looking for.
