Lake Naivasha National Park is few hours from Nairobi Kenya. it is a huge lake within the Great Rift Valley. Surrounded by a forest full of animals. And the lake with an amazing variety of birds.
You can get a boat ride for USD$35 per person anytime for an hour. There are guides.
Another attraction is the Group Of Hippos.
You have number of hotels around. We did not stay there but left after a boat ride to another lake.

A very pleasant outing on the lake. We chose the hour ride and saw many birds some hippo and some game on the bank near the Credentials game park. There are many operators so if you are on your own you may want to try at Karagita beach which is about 3 kilometers off the main road to Nakuru. Costs only 1500 shillings per boat and not 2000 to three thousand per person like at some of the more touristy places

Much cheaper than visiting any of the other national park and you can actually walk among the animals! Great experience.

I took a boat safari on lake Naivasha and what a wonderful event it turned out to be. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in Kenya, outside the town of Naivasha in Nakuru County, which lies north west of Nairobi. It is part of the Great Rift Valley. Famous for its hippopotamus, it didn't let you down. In addition the rest of the wildlife and birds made for a brilliant experience. After all of that we circumvented the island in the lake and came across the breeding grounds of the large cormorants high in the trees. A really great experience.
