Theoretically this place could be great. But it isn't. The bar and dining room are large but feel dark, gloomy and grubby. On our visits it always is either virtually empty or impossibly full, due to a function of some sort. I was going to title this review "Rough as rats" which is probably not fair but the phrase keeps coming back to me as I type.

There is a huge amount of space outside, with seating and a children's play area. On our last visit this was monopolized by a noisy group of young people, possibly students from the nearby College but if so it must have declined seriously since I studied for my 'A' Levels there as none of them seemed to be able to read the "Please close the gate" sign.

We had one, very quick, drink and left. Closing the gate behind us.

Had a lovely lunch here, staff were fantastic and the locals are all friendly
The ham egg and chips were gorgeous.
It's a small family run pub the owner is on site and very approachable.
Didn't use the b &b but the place is kept lovely so much sure the facilities are second to none.
We will be back.

Travelling down from Manchester for a three night stay, the pub is in an ideal location. Stay wasn't luxurious, bedroom was "tired " and looked like something from the 1970's, but room was large and airy and staff were warm and welcoming which made all the difference. Not sure the place is really set up/comfortable with offering accommodation - Unfortunately, after being out all day, every day, rooms weren't made up and clean towels not replaced. However, soon as we made young barman aware of this, he came straight up with fresh towels and brought is a jug of fresh milk for hot drinks, additional tea and coffee and biscuits.. Despite bedroom being directly over the top of the bar, we weren't disturbed by any noise in the evenings - could hear some music one night (guitarists were playing) but it wasn't too loud.
Breakfast was amazing - as a vegetarian, ordering breakfast can sometimes (mostly!) be disappointing - but the chef here went out of his way to accommodate us by offering non meat substitutes to go with everything else, not that they were needed as the breakfasts were HUGE!! Beautiful food, free range eggs (you can always tell by the size and colour of the yolks!) cooked exactly as we wanted.
Ate in the pub on our first night - food was great. Lots of veggie options - not just the usual goats cheese tart or some type of risotto that is so often the "go to" choice at most places. There was also a vegan friendly choice on the menu, not something I expected to see in such a small pub. Once the chef realised he had vegetarian guests, he asked us if there was anything we might like "off menu". How good is that?
There is also an extensive specials board - when we were there offerings included fresh crab, scallops and some other freshly caught fish dish.
Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating - food was great, accommodation less so, but not bad for an overnight stay if en route somewhere else.
