The Maltings: Well we were not disappointed here, the photos in the Rural Retreats website are a true representation of this little gem. We like to go away with our dog but do get disappointed when to some, owning a dog means you like to slum it. We do not! When we go away we like somewhere to at least be on a par with our own home otherwise what's the point?
Anyway on arrival we were really pleased with our selection, we were greeted by owner Barbara who was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They live immediately next door should you have any problems. There was a lovely little hamper with essentials along with milk and orange juice in the fridge. Tea, coffee, butter, condiments were all present along with loo roll, toiletries and washing up liquid / dishwasher tablets etc. The kitchen is also well equipped with all the utensils and even a set of scales, foil and cling film. No these are not essential to a stay away but certainly makes things easier. The property was clean, very tastefully decorated and very cosy, so toasty we didn't have the necessity to use the wood burner - gutted! The bed was also extremely comfortable with a TV in the bedroom too!
We were lucky with the weather and I've no doubt this property is much prettier in the sunshine (as are most). The only negative if I was looking really hard would be the fact there is no shower however the bath is amazing with a proper attachment to wash your hair. To fit both they would have to forgo the beautiful bath and that would be a real shame.
There's nothing within walking distance either apart from a ropey pub called the Crown, we walked in, smelt the carpet over any food and so walked straight out again. However there are some lovely places only a very short drive away: Happisburgh and Sherringham were lovely and worth a visit. We ate at the very local Verbon Arms (separate review) but very nice. Also got a take away from Jade Garden which was also very good. Be aware nearly all local pubs stop serving at 2pm and start again at 6pm.
If, like us you want a quiet little retreat for a few days then you won't be disappointed
