My family and I have recently spent another glorious holiday at placid waters. The units are large, spotless and the location is perfect. The managers welcomed us and were extremely obliging. As a large family who travel from all over Australia, Placid Waters is a fabulous place to meet up. Can't wait for our next annual get together. Highly recommended.

We had an unpleasant experience on arrival - they wanted to charge more than our quote 'due to us being misquoted when we booked' and then a very surly attitude when we argued we had a price in writing. They did give us the originally quoted price 'complimentary' but I have actually never in my life experienced such a horrible demeanor from an accommodation (if you read my prior reviews I always try to highlight the positives in any stay and am not a demanding or unrealistic traveller by any means).
The motel has a convenient location. The rooms were spacious and reasonably well equipped. However, we had to rewash several plates. The oven interior was very dirty and had obviously not been checked/cleaned. We found very old used medicine packets that were under the single bed (that they had apparently put in the room just for us) - I don't believe the beds had been cleaned under in an extremely long time. However, the unit was surface clean, the linen clean and beds comfortable. We slept well, but while we were not expecting the Ritz (this is a motel on the budget end of Bribie Island) we were definitely disappointed with our choice and would not stay here again.

We were visiting family over Easter, and chose Placid Waters, as it is close to them. It is certainly an older style place, but is clean and well maintained. The apartments are big, with lots of room, which you don't often get in newer places. The pool area was good, and solar heated, which is great as we had smaller children.
The only thing I had issues with I'd paying additional for aircon, a bit strange for Queensland, when you'd likely need it!
We used their wifi, and the rates are average, you are best to pay this on the hourly rate.
We'd stay here again, it has everything you need, and is walking distance to everything.

We have visited Bribie Island many times on holiday from UK ( friends/family live close by & we tie in with visits to other locations such as Melbourne) and regularly booked accomodation at Placid waters for approximately 10 to 12 stays over the last 15 years. So perhaps we could be classed as regular returning guests.
WE WLL NEVER RETURN AGAIN
The apartments are well situated overlooking the waterfront, & are arranged in a horseshoe shape overlooking a landscaped pool area. All apartments are individually decorated & are large with living room, fully equiped kitchen, balcony, bathroom, utility room & 2 bedrooms. There is limited Aircon-that has to be paid for extra. We believe Wifi is possible to obtain but from the brochure provided it is very expensive. The apartments are at parts starting to show their age, both internally and externally. Many apartments now have security screens fitted over their individual front doors, but ours did not and had just one inferior lock on the door, which was of concern.
We visited in January/February 2013 after booking direct. Unfortunately we arrived just as a major & devastating Cyclone (cyclone Oswald) hit the area. We had managed to get out on arrival to some shops in the vicinity, but a car is recommended, & got in food etc.
After less than 24 hours the Power went down at Placid waters & stayed that way for appx 4 days.
There are no back up generators so we had no light, power, etc. The resident managers just provided a couple of small tea light candles & a kids torch to us. Stairwells were unlit to apartments(apart from a small candle on each that the managers lit at night-rather a safety risk with carpets or kids possibly close by), and the basement parking area was also unlit and a scary place as the managers had left this open as the normal electronic security would not work without power.
We have also discovered that here was a Fatal stabbing at Placid waters in April 2012!!
We had been advised on arrival that they now lock the complex front gates at night after a recent incident of non resident youths causing a disturbance in the pool at night.
After a few days of no power and loss of much of our food due to fridge not working & very hot weather, and the dangers of having no tangible lighting in stairwells, apartments, parking areas etc which was in our opinion dangerous, we approached the managers to see if they knew when power may be restored (they did not) & ask if they might consider a reduction in apartment rates we had paid as we had virtally no use of facilities in our apartment (including washing, cooking, fridge, TV, aircon etc).
We were greeted with a torrent of abuse, sworn at, told we could get out and also in part ignored as one of the managers refused to talk to us & walked away every time we tried to talk to them. We were shocked & disturbed and they refused initially to offer any room rate reduction or refund pro rata. They were obvously stressed & unhappy & advised that most of the guests who had either booked to come or were staying had checked out, but we would of been happy to stay if they had offered to help. But we ended up having to go to other accomodation/hotels on Bribie to see if they had rooms-many did, with power & all were extremely helpful and courteous. We ended up moving out of Placid mainly due to the way we had been abused & treated as regular returning guests and the possible dangers at night in the dark.
After much negotiating the mangers agreed to refund part of our accomodation costs, but we still had to pay over the normal rate for the days we were there. We had to provide a list of foods that we had lost to them so, they advised, they could try & claim it back on their Insurance, but they refused to give us any refund towards these costs This was another issue as even after the power had been on for 2days the refund had not been processed & we had to return & ensure the Managers who had not bothered to process our partial refund did so while we waited.
Since our return to UK we have raised the matters with Queensland tourism, associated agencies & Chamber of Commerce, who have been apologetic, very concerned & are investigating matters, hence in part our delay in posting the review.
In essence would we recommend Placid waters Bongaree NO. There are far better places to stay if visiting the area & more pleasant & helpful Managers who will treat customers with respect & courtesy.

Located on the sea front at Bongaree this is a 'U'shaped complex of 3 storeys high.

Car parking provided under the complex accessed by electronic key to garage.

the management keep the complex is excellent condition - nothing is too much trouble for these hard working Kiwis (yep!).

There is a solar heated pool in the centre that, like all pools in Australia issurrounded by a child proof fence, so they cannot just walk in to the pool itself.

the complex is facing athe main road but it is not too loud - it may be an idea to keep an eye on the small ones since the gate to the complex is only closed at night so access is easy on to the pavement.

Nighlife - not really! there are some cafe/takeaways and a decent restaurant - for a beer you have to go to either the RSL or the bowls club - not bad though and you get a decent meal as well (lunch or dinner).

Teenagers will get very bored here unless they have a car.
Shopping - a small mall is 10 minutes walk away - has an IGA (grocers) and a good bakers and butchers. Post office and bric a brac just down the road from the complex.

Its quiet and relaxing - this being Bribie and Bongaree there are a high proportion of OAP's.

Want quiet? this is the place.
