There was nothing to disappoint at this hotel. Started from the time we checked in until we checked out. Great service, felt like we were the only ones there. Perfect place to relax, get back to nature and reminder to do this more often. Cannot rate this experience high enough, already spreading the word amongst friends.

Stayed for just one night, but enjoyed very much. The view and surrounds are fantastic. The bed is super comfy! And the staff are friendly. negatives: The shower leaks onto the floor in the small bathroom. The food wasn't that fantastic. I was expecting melt in the mouth experience, but it was just average. Had lunch and breakfast.

Stayed for a Saturday night in a spa room. Even with a smoky atmosphere the view still spectaular. Must be sensational on a clear sunny day. Room was very clean and the balcony faced over trees to the lakes. Koala appeared on Sunday morning and varied bird life. Tranquil restful ambience as advertised. The highlight was the restaurant. Dinner was fabulous and breakfast buffet varied and tasty. From first greeting to final farewell, the service by all the staff was friendly, courteous and welcoming. A gem and so close to Brisbane.

Room Tip: If you want a view over the trees ask for a higher floor.

Pros first-
Room service lunch was very good, meal came within 5 mins. Steak burger was the best I have ever had. Good job chef!
Aesthetically the room was very nice. Good bathroom etc.
Cleaner was very pleasant and polite the next morning. Good Job!
Room was clean apart from the blinds were dirty when we pulled them down at night.

Cons-
We booked at the last minute (morning of our stay) and the place was nearly empty so we asked for a better price than the website. They said no. I had worked at Travelodge in the past so I knew you could get a better deal if the hotel was not full (at least 10%) so I asked again and explained that companies I had worked for in the past had the ability to do it. I was told that if I work in the industry and get a 'written letter' from an employer stating that I work in hotels and I have high enough position they would consider the request (what the?). All we wanted was the room to be the same as others in the area or at least a discount from the website without jumping through ridiculous hoops.

-The receptionist was not pleasant, nor what you would expect in a hotel of that pedigree and for the cost of the room.

- The chips bought at dinner ($8 a bowl) were burn and soggy. We think they were cooked in cold oil for too long. We would have rather a "sorry the fryer is turned off is there something else we could get you)

-The A/C unit was far too small for the room. During the day we had to leave the windows open to get the breeze and use the fan. We were sweating. Once we went to be we closed up the room and left the A/C on. When the outside temp was cold enough (after 10:30pm) the a/c started to work. We were asleep by then. Because it hadn’t worked during the day we left the temp at 16 degs in the hope it would be 24 degs during the night. At 2am in the morning I woke up to the room now freezing and a dry sore throat. The a/c could cope with the heat in the early hours of the morning.

-The fire alarm went off at 10pm and it was turned off within 3 of the woop woop woops (which is fine) when I asked in the morning if they had an issue I was told the alarm goes off to let reception know if the day spar hadn’t reset the fire panel that day. (What the!? I manage shopping centres and that is just plan bull) Why no just say “we are sorry our staff did ………”. Why make up stories?

-The TV was very small, maybe 20 inch and it had heaps of fuzzy channels. Channels without picture can be removed from the TV menu. There is no need to go through 6-8 channels of no picture. I understand if I only paid $120 a night but I didn’t, we paid top prices.

-We had a baby with us and we let them know prior to our booking so they could work out a room that would least impact the other guests. Even though 2/3rds of the hotel was empty they still placed us next to other rooms that had people staying there. There was a whole wing of rooms free, however they did not put us there so we don’t disturb others. Other people staying there did say they were ok with our crying baby. But we know it’s not nice, especially when they could have paid $209 for the night.

Overview- If you want a great weekend getaway don’t bother with here. It is overpriced and under performs. If it was $140 per night then it would be worth going. The price is probably the reason why 2/3rds of the rooms were empty and we were the only ones from our entire wedding staying there despite the hotel being one of the closer places to the wedding venue.

Dear Samuel,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your recent overnight stay with us. Samuel, having checked in at 2pm on the Friday afternoon, attending an offsite wedding on Friday night and then checking out at 8.30am on Saturday morning it is fantastic that you were still able to experience our services and facilities to their fullest.

Your feedback regarding your Room Service and your special mention to the housekeeping staff was much appreciated, we will be sure to pass on your positive comments to the staff, it is always nice when housekeeping is acknowledged as it can sometimes be seen as a thankless job.

Samuel if I may address your comments regarding our rates, the $159.00 rate that you booked for Friday night was our best available rate of the day, as an Accor property we operate dynamic pricing our rates are determined by our occupancy levels, $159.00 was our discounted rate for the Friday night. As an Accor property we follow very strict rate parity guidelines, these guidelines promise that all public channels offer the same rate regardless of the time of booking or how it is made. We take rate parity very seriously it is our promise to all guests that the rates that they offered on the Accor website are the same as the rates that they are offered directly or through any other channel. We would never disadvantage our valuable Accor loyalty members by offering a more expensive rate on the Accor website than they what could book direct.

Samuel we are always happy to offer an industry discount for those guests that work in the hotel or Airline industry but of course we do require the appropriate form of identification for us to offer this rate which is standard in all hotels. We pride ourselves on our customer service and the interactions that we have with our guests being that we are a Lodge this is what sets us apart from your corporate properties. I think that the other reviews here on Trip advisor would be testament to the value we place on customer service, it is a shame that our staff have appeared rude or ill suited to their position based upon their declining your 10% discount request.

Having worked in the industry you would be familiar with the importance of ensuring that when you are not fully booked that your guests are not spread out over the property, as in emergency situations it is important to be able to evacuate a property quickly to avoid unnecessary incidences. To spread guests over the property would make this all the more difficult, we also have rooms that do require accessing more stairs where we can accommodate guests in rooms closer to the Main Lodge building then this is also more practical for our guests.

The explanation for the Fire Alarm being activated on the Friday evening was the correct explanation, the steam room in the Day Spa had unfortunately activated one of the Spa Alarms and required reception to reset it, if not reset the main hotel alarm will go off, this does not happen often however has been known to, although reception was not 100% sure of what had happened when you asked she was accurate in how she tried to described what may have been the problem.

Again, Samuel thank you for taking the time to review Mercure Clear Mountain Lodge, Spa and Vineyard all feedback is valuable to us whether it be positive or negative, we appreciate your giving us both.

Warm Regards

Teresa Aitken
