We were on a drive in the country and stopped for lunch at Kalbar. The café is just delightful, friendly staff, actual tablecloths on the tables, and a lovely home feeling. The little knick knacks and interesting cards on the tables, telling of some things gone by(one was for Persil washing powder and another was on some old cars, which my husband and father found very interesting.) We only had toasted sandwiches, coffee and hot chocolates,( but the menu had so much more to try, which we will do on our next visit), but this time we only wanted something light, because we had the spotted a sign for waffles, with berries, ice cream, cream, maple syrup and icing sugar, which we wanted to try. The waffles are delicious, we all said we would be coming back to have some more. The café is clean, tidy, with quick efficient service, but not too quick so as to think you were back in the city, prices are very reasonable too. Kristy Ellis and team make you want to keep coming back to see friends, the café is just so relaxing, just like having a cuppa at home, but without you having to do the work. I would definitely recommend this café.

When passing through the quaint little village of Kalbar we stopped for lunch at this café. While very basic with modest décor, it has a genuine friendly country atmosphere which was an enjoyable change from the hustle and bustle of the city. The walls were filled with paintings by local artists and other interesting artwork is dotted around the café. Needless to say, the service was very laid back, friendly and very good. The meals we had were of the basic home-cooked variety, but adequate, and the coffee was great. When we left we felt we had made new friends who would genuinely welcome us back at any time.
