We decided to have a resort stay on the way home from our Gold Coast holiday. We arrive right on 2.00 and found our room ready. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful, offering kids club and movie night.
The room was spacious, clean and fresh. Furnishings were also great. Some items like nuts and chips were out on the counter to entice. My son has anaphylaxis to nuts so seeing them on the counter I quickly grabbed them and put them in the cupboard out of sight from little fingers.
We got changed quickly and headed down to the pool. It was so hot. The pool area is in need of attention. There are huge cracks in the concrete and the decking is rotting (soft and spongy in places). We enjoyed a drink by the pool in my little plastic takeaway wine 'glass' and the kids played on the slide for an hour. I worry about that slide. I was very vigilant with my kids but some parents were not to be seen.
We slept really soundly. Comfortable bed and quiet dark room. It was the best sleep I had all holidays.
I think we wont return. More likely to head to Breakfree Aanuka again. Might cost a little more but for the kids it is a great stay!

Where do I begin!? We stayed for a week, expecting to see a resort as fabulous as the pictures displayed... the place was an absolute shambles... ! Looking at the pictures on the website all that you can see is that they have an excellent air-brushing program. There is an enormous amount of contruction happening that starts at some ridiculous, very 'non-holiday-friendly' hour. The "room-service" is ordering from the bar and there is a delivery charge to have is sent to your room and the food was major disappointment. In particular, $17 pizza has only a handful of canned, awful topping.
The room was average and desperately in need of an update... and light, lamps are pretty but you don't want to walk to the other end of the room when you get back at night!
The staff are great once they get to you... but be prepared for a wait if you're in the restaurant.
The place is clean, but incredibly run down and browsing the messages on this site and the response from Opal Cove "management" below - the pool is not being updated and I would suggest instead of building further units - update, update, update. The gym needs to have equipment. The "resort" is in a good location and has such potential, but it's just not worth the money or your time to stay there.

Where do I start! This hotel is incredibly dated, when you walk into the resort it smells of chlorine from the 'water feature' in the lobby. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the rooms were VERY clean, but so dated they are just falling apart. We were in an 'ocean view' room which had a great view of a construction site which woke us up at 7am every morning (great on a holiday!), when we asked to move they put us in a 'mountain view' room without any sort of refund, and lo and behold! another construction site behind the resort!!! Why spend money on so many new buildings when the resort needs such a big overhaul!!!? Very close to the beach, the pool is dated and very chlorinated, but you can't swim at the beach so have to drive into Coffs Harbour to go swimming (and it's not close!). The food is expensive but it's just too far from anywhere to get a decent meal (i.e in Coffs Harbour). Very disappointing all up and would definitely not visit again ...

where do i begin,
i was given a 4 days break for myself from my family to the opal cove as it seemed perfect. I am a performer and have worked solid training for the past 6 months and this was meant to be be a relaxing detox away from everything to chill out and relax.

The only thing i can say is the service was lovely at the hotel but that is about it. The hotel was very unimpressive in the rooms, lacked the small details you require (was very basic), the pool bar it advertised (doesn't open in feb/march - only on holidays which they didnt tell), the sauna is so so old and run down with graffiti over the walls which i wasn't impressed with, the gym was a mess and not one piece of electrical equipment worked. The prices of food , drink etc were overpriced but i have to say on a positive if you are happy to spend $25 plus every time you get a meal , you do get a great meal. The day spa was an absolute let down, disaster- Paradiso day spa. The girl i had made out she was highly accredited but turned out to be unexperienced, very unprofessional and unorganised. When i finally got a good massage practioner( which they had to bring in from another salon) i was so uptight and edgy i spent the whole time not relaxed and wanting to get my bags and leave. The lady i had was amazing but even she was unimpressed by the way the spa was run. Not to mention when i asked to get a salt scrub done, there was no, crystals for them to use. I have never seen anything like this- to an extent the manager of the resort was extremely apologetic and understood i hated complaining and i lasted putting on a smile thinking this must get better soon but after 2 days of non stop let downs, i had no choice but to ask for a refund on my last nights, paid a ridiculous flight change amount but in all honestly it was worth it to get home. - I also was beside myself when i thought i would make the best of it and go for a surf instead but was told the beach was not safe to swim in as it is too rough in the cove so need to go into town. Hmmmm again, not advertised.

I did not want my family wasting there money on a resort that was nothing what is advertised....i will never return to opal cove nor recommend it, all i can say is that yes you were voted best resort years ago but it is as if it has not kept up to scratch ever since the trophy. On a positive- i must say the service of the management team was very appreciative. But that is the only positive.

Stayed here for 1 night on our tour...

Hotel is big, modern and has lovely gardens/grounds, very close to the beach.

Good breakfast....steer clear if you dont want to holiday with a lot of noisy children!!
