Both my partner and I were very disappointed in Opal Cove Resort.
The rooms were nothing like they looked on the official website, we booked and paid for a resort room (with an apparent view of the resort) but on arrival asked for an upgrade to an ocean view (which was an extra $20 p/night) and accepted.
On the way to the room, as soon as we got out of the lift on the 4th floor, were overwhelmed by a strong hospital like, stale stench. The room itself only had a tiny ocean view, otherwise thick tall tree's were in the way, and to look to the right (from our balcony) we could see the half-worked on, next stage of Opal Cove which was a dirt covered work-site, and $20 p/night hardly seemed worth it.
Back at reception we decided to take the original resort room instead, and upon arriving to our 'second' room, we came to know there was no resort view, but only a view of our own car, in the outdoor carpark.
The bathroom was very hospital-like again being an unwelcoming stale white colour and what looked like an 80's style bath/shower and with only a toilet seat with a push button flush in the wall and no ventilation fan in the bathroom/toilet.
The service was so so, with only one exceptionally lovely gentleman who worked at the help desk, making up for the whole stay in itself.
The Pool Bar, which actually sold myself and my partner into choosing Opal Cove, was in-fact closed down, and only opens (which we found out the day we arrived) in Dec/Jan each year.
The restaurant was overpriced and charging $22 for a buffet breakfast.
The golf course was very low budget so wouldn't recommend staying at Opal Cove for the golf course.
The pool/spa was lovely though and the view of the beach from the pool area was great.

Looked at the reviews from Trip Advisor, was a bit iffy to book - glad I did. Arrived at 2pm they were still cleaning the room, but gave us free complimentary drinks while we waited (about 20 minutes). Went down to the pool area after settling in, had a fabulous afternoon (kids loved the pool). Went for a walk down to the beach and look out. Had a wonderful dinner that night as well as buffet breakfast the next day. Next time I am in Coffs Habour will book again at this Resort.

Well appointed hotel where we got last minute accommodation in a room with ocean views. Had a room service meal which was simple but not expensive and good. Satff were friendly and helpful.

We got the standby rate of $98 which was good value compared to other deals around. The room was very spacious with nice hinterland views; bed was a very comfy kingsize. Beautiful location next to the beach which is worth a walk on. My only disappointment was the cold pool; in early September I had imagined it to be heated, as described in their brochures, but it was too cold to use, at 19 degrees. Generally I felt the whole place had a slight run down air about it and they seemed to be putting more emphasis on their apartments, they're selling off now. However this didn't detract from us enjoying our stay there.

We were expecting great things from this hotel and were very disappointed. The rooms were very small and unfortunately not sound proof. Not only did we have to endure the loud tv and shouting from the room next door, but at around 11pm a bus load of teenage girls arrived and began cartwheeling and backflipping up and down the halls until the early hours of the morning (gymnasts?)

The pool is also rather pathetic and staff don't seem terribly interested in their guests.

Since our stay I have managed to warn a lot of our friends and prevented them from wasting their time and money.....this is the only positive about our experience.
