“Best Resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013

The Wolgan Valley resort exceeded expectations on nearly every level, and the expectations were quite high given the price for the 2 bedroom villa we needed for the family of 5. The villas are outstanding with great attention to detail. The pools are great. The resort has a nice set of activities for both adults and the kids, including several wildlife safaris, horseback riding, archery for the kids. Don't miss the nighttime safari including stargazing. The food at dinner was outstanding. Our only suggestion for improvement is the staff at the casual lunch restaurant, which left us waiting nearly an hour 2 days in a row for our food with very little attention in between. Still, and overall great experience!

Flew into Sydney from the UK and went striaight to Wolgan Valley. Transfer felt expensive but does involve a 6 hour return for the driver so probably isn't so bad really! The resort is tucked away in a private reserve bordered by national parks and the solitude is spectacular. The land is being actively managed to promote a return to its natural state and some time with staff on the included excursins is well worthwhile to get the most from the landscape, flora and fauna even if (like us) you usually prefer to explore yourselves. There is a lot of wildlife - especially in the evening. Great walking both on the estate and in the parks around - you can be dropped off with maps and guide to do some of them.
Accommodation is very luxurious with a spacious villa and one of the most comfortable beds I've experienced. I would class the pool more as plunge than lap but was good to have. The main pool is a good size for a serious swim.
We found the food excellent with none of the issues in some of the earlier reviews. The fish at the Sunday BBQ was some of the best I've had anywhere.
Negatives? Not much. The staff (like the resort) are often young (but usually local) and as such there are some delays and minor mistakes. Nothing that doesn't get sorted with a smile and it helps if you don't forget that you came to relax.

From the moment we arrived we felt like royalty!

We parked our car and a lovely American gentleman came to the gates and picked us up. He then drove us to the main lobby where we were greated by another lovely gentleman John who took us to our room. He made us feel very welcome and was highly professional. We were then taken to our "6 STAR" Suite where we were given a room orientation. They are simply outstanding on every level, from the huge bed to the beautiful view to the heated plunge pool on the side, it's just STUNNING. That evening we went on a wildlife tour and shown around the land. It really is a beautiful landscape and a true treasure of Australia. Apart from a few glitches with our dinner on the first night everything was amazing and food was fantastic! The next day we went to the spa and indulged in a relaxing massage, then enjoyed the privacy of our suit in the afternoon.
Being taken back to the gates the next day made me sad. I wish we never had to leave!

Management - You really know what you are doing. The service at Wolgan Valley is definitely 5 star and your staff are fantastic.

I cannot rave enough about this resort and how beautiful it is. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone!

Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely. Wonderful property; really amazing location; excellent facilities; excellent, friendly staff. Worth saving up for a few days and nights of heaven. From the minute you arrive at the gate and are taken by 4-wheel drive to reception it is avery special experience. The staff are appropriate and friendly. The villas perfect. The valley and surrounding mountains are incomparable. Environmentally sympathetic luxury.

What an absolutely fabulous get away. This resort is faultless. From the moment we walked in and were offered hot towels, champagne and beautiful welcoming smiles to when we were escorted to our car to leave the service had been amazing.
The staff were all so accommodating, they could not do enough for you. Their love and enthusiasm for the beautiful environment they were so lucky to work in showed through and spilled over to ensure that our experience was unique and as special as Wolgan Valley is. The amount of effort and thought that has gone into making this dream come alive is remarkable. Just the logistics into building and developing this wonderful resort to the high standard is hard to comprehend. Every detail has been cleverly thought through even to limiting the car traffic...there was absolutely no resemblance of city life. The peace and tranquility was beautiful.

The rooms were sensational. Every box or drawer contained something to make your stay a little more comfortable. The bed was luxurious and so big. Your own pool..what privacy! And every night the bed was turned down, a little treat left by the bedside and the room made even more comfortable. You didn't need to ask for anything. The rooms had a beautiful view from every window and although we didn't use it the two way fire place looked like a real treat.

There were activites that catered for every need and we were lucky enough to have a personalised tour of the homestead and garden followed by a wonderful cooking class with the head chef, Anston. What fun! And the food....well words can not explain. You are never left hungry. What beautiful food...such a selection ...all presented differently at every sitting and always offered with wine to compliment the dish. Again the staff could not be faulted..so friendly, so interested in you as a person and so genuinely keen to make sure everything was perfect for you. We spent a little time with Joost, the General Manager, who explained how Wolgan had come to be. It is truly a credit to everyone involved and it made us feel really priviledged to be staying somewhere where the environment had been given so much consideration in a development of this size.

We took advantage of the wonderful day spa where lovely Rhonda and Ainsley wove their magic. We left after 90 minutes of pure bliss walking on a cloud. The stress was truly left behind.

I could go on for pages...but to anyone even thinking of this kind of holiday all I can say is do it. You won't be disappointed. The benefits of a two day holiday like this are amazing..we truly came home feeling like we had been away for a week. We were recharged and relaxed and this holiday has beaten any other relaxation holiday we have even been on hands down.

We thank all the staff, and that includes all the people that work tirelessly behind the scenes that you don't see, for making the resort what is, and for making our trip so very special. It is definitely something we will always remember. We will be back. This time in winter...wow can only imagine!! Thankyou so much once again x

Stayed for 2 nights in March 2013. After driving 13kms on a dirt road (glad we own a four wheel drive) we reached the gatehouse where we were greeted & directed to where to park the car. Car had to be parked in a dirt carpark with no cover as there was no space left under the shade sails. Porter arrived in 4x4 & took us a short drive to resort. Quick checkin & we asked if we were too late for lunch. (lunch finishes at 3pm & it was now 2.50pm). We were told no & taken to dining area. Ordered a small Caesar salad & attempted to order another course & we were told, "kitchen is closed!" very disappointing & unexpected!.

We were then taken to our suite. Without a doubt the most spectacular accommodation we have ever stayed in. Certainly a 6 star suite complete with plunge pool. Mini bar, toiletries etc fantastic!!

We were very tired & decided to have in-room dining for our evening meal. What a huge mistake!!! Ordered fish. Wasn't available. Then ordered pork. Very dry & inedible. Ordered Cheese & onion tart. Burnt & cold.? They forgot the desserts, so had to go back & get them. So disappointing!! & it was $12.50 per person to have it delivered!

Breakfast service the next morning was just ok. Ordered egg & it arrived on a potato Rossi dripping in oil. Just ate the pastries & yoghurt. We had a young inattentive waitress.

Lunch on both days was nice but when I asked for the dessert menu I was told there was only a choice of a muffin or icecream. Certainly not what you would expect from a 5 star resort.
One nice meal on our last night & a visit to the cheese room which was great.

Overall, extremely disappointed with the food.

Activities: we took a horse & carriage ride for an hour. So much fun & the guides (2 females were fantastic). Highlight of our stay! We also took the night animal spotting tour & that was good with a great knowledgable guide.

The reason I gave this resort 4 stars is the disappointing food that was served. Out of 6 meals, the only one that was 5 star was in the restaurant on our last night. The others were very disappointing.

Room Tip: All suites are beautiful. 6 star

Rural Australia doesn't get better than this. My husband flew us there in his chopper which was a bonus! We were there for a little R&R. It's only a treat when the place you stay is on par or better than home. Upon arrival a refreshing towel and champagne. Lunch, great service, generous service and very pleasing aesthetics. Activities booked. To our suite. Exceptional...think Ralph Luren / Coco Republic, and the bed comfort plus. Seemless quality abound.

Beyond the luxury, the foresight...the active conservation of Australian artefacts, stories and culture. A true credit to the creativity of the planners to be able to create a place of highly interactive conservation. You can be as involved as you want to be - plently of activities.

We had a truly pleasurable stay and highly recommend it. Worth a couple of nights away from the kids. Although they would love it here too. And we were told they are truly welcome.

Room Tip: We loved our suite they all look great...we had an international rock star next to us!
