We really enjoyed our night staying at Gumleaves. We had a 3br cabin and it was a great experience for our three "city-fied" kids. They had a great time climbing on the rope and tyre things and finished a complete round of mini-golf. It was lovely having a wood heater (the exact same Kent I remember as a child strangely enough) but it could have done with a good flue clean as it didn't draw all that spectacularly. Also, be prepared to take/boil drinking water. The kids enjoyed watching the resident possums wandering around the place. The service was extremely friendly and we would have no hesitation staying there again.

We have a holiday home on the East Coast but like to get out and camp with the kids each summer. We knew about Gumleaves, had heard mixed reviews so we went with an open mind. We shared the camp area with two other families, lots of room, free fire wood and happy with amenities block and in view of kids playground. Lots of wildlife, kids loved it. The obstacle course and challenge activities, basic mini golf, deer feeding, tyre swing, flying foxes made a refreshing change from your GoldCoast theme parks. Basically it's what u make it. Will return with a bigger group of friends and kids for a fun wknd.

First and formost, the kids loved it. Hey, so did the adults. We stayed in a self contained cabin which lied close to all of the activities. The cabin itself was very clean and cosy, a plesure to stay in, complete with everything you would need.

If as much thought was put into looking after the rest of the place as what was put into the cabins the whole place would get a 5, but the activities have been left to rot (still useable).

The boats (one sinking with a hole in it) all had miss matched/broken oars, fantastic for the family interested in rowing around in small circles. The boats that could be used were full of water.

Walking around this quaint little place you will run into quite a lot of activities that can't be used as they are broken. Wires and cables laying around, dangerously inviting the unsupervised child to inquire.

The mini golf was fun, even surrounded by the cracking remains of Australian Wildlife (painted on boards) that look as if their last coat of paint was done by the origional convicts.

The flying foxes were a huge hit and very fun if one can overlook the broken walkways dangling highly over the hard ground underneith. Or the fact one of them is near impossible for anyone under the hight of (im guessing) 8 foot high to saftely get into.

The deer park was nice. There was a group of very young bucks and does.

The childrens park had a broken rtd bottle hiding in the pinebark.

If you can navigate the place without getting run over by the (very friendly) matron hooning around dangerously in her blue hatchback (in a family holiday park) a you should think yourself very lucky.

By all means, check it out... we had fun. But make sure your family is insured and keep an eye on them.

We chanced upon this place by accident and had the place virtually to ourselves. The kids loved the flying foxes, rope swings etc and loved having a BBQ with real wood. We stayed in an on site cabin which seemed expensive initially, but when you factor in all the facilities for kids, and the fun of the wood bbqs and toasting marshmallows, we thought it pretty good value - especially when compared to what others in the area are charging. Would happily recommend to friends and family if they're passing this way.

Stayed in DEC/JAN 2012 and liked it the longer we stayed the more we liked it.

The Good
Plenty of different things to do for the kids and the rest of the family. This includes 4 different types of flying fox, large lake and row boats, bike riding and plenty of tyre swings.

The Bad / not so good
Tiny camping sites in both powered and non powered areas.
Shower / toilet blokes are tired but the do keep them clean.
Is not cheap for what you get.
Lots of young screaming kids and parents who prefer to care their grog than care for the kids!

It's a strange place to review as it's certainly not a bright / new / clean Big 4 site but, there is some charm as it's a camping site without anything new. You need to stay there a while so you can wear in with it and go with it's flow. I'll hopefully go back with our camper trailer and just hope, we miss the bogans (sorry their is no kind way of saying it.)

This was a fantastic place to camp. A lot of entertainment, we enjoyed the flying fox and the canoes. There are good facilities including a camp kitchen, adventure equipment, barbeques and good bathrooms. It was our favourite campsite in Tasmania.
