“Glyfada beach hotel”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

A short stay 6th to 9th Oct after a week sailing in the Ionian Sea. Lovely location, very well kept hotel, pleasant staff & bargain price at end of season. Buffet breakfast just OK, good, sand beach allowed a pleasant walk, but if without a car, a long haul on road to get anywhere & as restaurant, which is in a separate building, not run by hotel, just about to close for winter, so needed a car to get an evening meal. Free wifi available in hotel. Weather was wet & dull unfortunatley while we were there. so had to drive around on poor roads in area.

Stayed here 1st week of October on a B&B basis. Half hour journey from the airport to the hotel. Hotel is a 2 storey building with no lifts. Very quiet because end of season, there was only us and another couple. Even though the website advertises a restaurant it was shut because the season is over. Breakfast good with a selection of hot & cold food, coffee, tea, juices, fruit. Room with sea view, nice size, good comfortable bed , excellent air condition. Rooms cleaned every day, linen changed as well. Hair dryer & shower gel supplied. Whats good about this hotel is the Wifi, if this wasnt there I'm sure we would have gone spare. TV only BBC, rest of programmes in local language, nothing else, so dont forget to carry your Ipad. On our booking it mentioned if we wanted dinner it would be 17 euros each, it would have been interesting to see where the food would have come from as the restaurant was closed. All in all a nice clean hotel to stay in with very pleasant and friendly staff, but websites that advertise this hotel should mention the end of season dates which is the end of September and not to expect much. With no car you would have to walk down to the only restaurant mentioned earlier to have your evening meal, that too in the dark because not much lighting on the beach. I find it strange that no one has mentioned the necessity of hiring a car here. We didnt because the websites advertise the bus service into Corfu Town as being good with no mention of changed bus timings due to end of season!

Beach a 5 minute walk down the path but have to mention, filthy, strewn with people's leftovers, bottles, cans and loads of pallettes lying around, why we don't know. Also irresponsible owners with dogs who foul the beach so if you walk on the sand you had to be careful. Whilst we were there we saw some people horse riding and the horses messing on the beach! just where people were in the water and would have to walk back onto the sand, not at all nice. 2 threadbare supermarkets with overpriced items. Only one restaurant open on the beach with good food but be prepared to pay 5euros for a bottle of local beer!

The local bus into Corfu Town leaves twice daily, the first one at 9.15 which takes 45 mins. The last bus back to Glyfada leaves Corfu Town at 4pm. We were told because end of season the bus timings are changed so its a mad scrum to get on the bus, if you miss it, then its 35 euros by taxi back to the hotel. Corfu Town lovely, very polite people, plenty of cafes, bars, cheap food & drink and almost everywhere there is free wifi. A lovely day in the town to be enjoyed, only spoiled by the earliness of the bus leaving at 4 so couldnt really have an evening out. Being where the hotel is situated the need to have a car is must as its a 10 min walk downhill to the bus stop and then walking back up again on return, not good if family with kids.

My daughter and I where in the hotel from august 31 till September 10 2013. it's a small hotel, causy rooms with nice view and even a refridgerator.airco also included. the best part are the friendly owner and his wife,Augustinos and Anna, also the girl from the reception.nothing is to much for them. after the first night I told them, that the matrass was to hard for me and asked for blankets to put on the matrass. the next day they even put a complete new nice soft topmatrass on the bed.what a service! the only missing thing in the room is a safe. breakfast was perfect, everything you needed, even cappuccino or espresso if you wanted. also the outside aria to have breakfast was very nice. for sure we will return to the hotel in the future. thank you again Augustinos and Anna for all your friendliness and the service you give to your customers.
pricewise a perfect hotel!

After spending 2 wonderful weeks at this hotel, I can say that we will never regret having booked the hotel.

The rooms are exactly as described, you have 2 options: sea view or mountain view. Of course we have chosen the sea view, which was very beautiful but a bit too hot in July. Probably the rooms on the mountain side are a bit cooler. We can't stand the air conditioned (which was working fine) so we had some problems sleeping at 36 degrees in the night.
There is a small tv in the room which can't be turned to the maximum volume, which is ok because this way you won't disturb the other guests and you won't be disturbed by the others.

In the bathroom there is a hair drier but if you spend your vacation during the summer, you won't need it. The rooms are being cleaned on a daily basis and the staff is very careful making the room look nice and clean. They have never disturbed us if there was the sign on the door, which was nice.

There is a free wireless network in the hotel but sometimes it lags or you might have problems connecting. I've noticed that it works better on the laptop than the smartphone.

If you have a car, during the day it could be a bit tricky to find a parking place because the beach in front of the hotel is being visited by many tourists, but there are no problems parking the car in the evening or in the night.

We've booked the room with breakfast included, buffet style. The only problem is that there is the same variety every day and if you don't know how to mix it, it can get a bit borring after some days eating the same thing.

There is a restaurant outside the hotel which I found it a bit pricey so we went to a wonderful restaurant in Pelekas, 10 minutes drive from the hotel.

The beach is literally in front of the hotel, maybe 20 meters away. It's a wonderful private beach with crystal clear water, beautiful sand and beach beds available to rent. One problem might be if there are too many tourists, you can't find a beach bed and there are no markets near the beach. Anyway, you have another option, 200 m away if you walk on the sand you can find another beach, Aloha, bigger, with plenty of beach beds, markets and restaurants.

The hotel has a bar but we didn't use it, there isn't a permanent bartender and it's a shame because when it's breakfast time, you can ask the staff for a frappe or an expresso and they had one of the best frapppes and expressos we have had during the vacation.

Overall it was a very nice experience and we were both very surprised of the quality having in mind it is a 3 star only hotel and we will definitely come back at this hotel the next time we will be in Corfu.

Room Tip: The rooms with sea view are too hot during the summer for persons that don't like to use A/C.

This was our first vacation on Corfu. After thorough consideration we chose this hotel on booking.com. I emailed the hotel 1 week prior to arrival and asked to arrange a taxi form Corfu airport. Our flight delayed, but the taxi from Pelekas taxi was waiting for us when we finally arrived.
It took about 30 min to get to the hotel from the airport. During check-in we were placed in a better room, than we had booked at no additional cost. Room was spacious, with descent furniture. Bathroom was very clean and well-furbished. In the morning we were overwhelmed with breathtaking sea view from the balcony. We enjoyed every single day from 2 weeks we spent at this place! Staff is very friendly and service-oriented. Rooms are cleaned every day and they change bed sheets and towels every other day. Glyfada beach is probably within top 3 beaches on the island and just few steps away from the hotel (with sunbeds and umbrellas to rent). You can find very picturesque places, for example Paleokostritsa bay, but sand/sea/ combination is just perfect at Glyfada beach. There is a Greek taverna close to hotel, run by the same family. The food is good, however the choice could be better. Breakfast served in the hotel is quite good, on demand you can get cappuccino and espresso.
On negative side, one can mention not very good bus connection to Corfu town with quite few buses daily, but again, you can always take a taxi. There is also free of charge bus to Pelekas. I strongly recommend to visit that village. It is very picturesque, with a very good taverna called Agnes on the main square (where the bus stops). From Pelekas you can either walk, or drive uphill to the Kaiser Throne - must have in your tourist agenda.
In Glyfada there are not so many tavernas and markets which makes prices a bit higher compared to other island places.
And again, we enjoyed very much our stay and would recommend this hotel without any reservation.
