We travelled as a family of 5 at the end of July, 1st week of the school holidays. A little about us first of all, and what we expect from a good holiday. Husband and myself travel extensively, both on business as well as for pleasure. We take a family holiday in July , taking my step-children, and take a child-free holiday in early September, so if the kiddie holiday goes horribly wrong, at least we have that to look forward to ! I must confess to being the sort of person who loves a luxurious hotel room, and I'm a sucker for touches like luxury products in the bathroom, turn down service, and fluffy towels changed twice daily. Now admittledly, this doesn't happen at the LTI, but read on as I managed to 'slum' it for a week !
We had booked 2 swim-up rooms and I e mailed the hotel directly to ask if we could have adjacent rooms so we could keep an eye on the children, which they kindly arranged for us. I have read some reviews where check in and room allocation has been an issue but it was quite the reverse for us - quick and efficient, just a short wait at the bar for the room to be 100% ready, then we were shown to them with the porter taking our luggage ahead of us. The swim-up rooms are really nice and modern, the bed was large and I slept really well for the whole week. The bathroom is basic and quite small in comparison to the room itself, the shower was simply a rather old fashioned affair over the bath tub, with a shower curtain ( a pet hate of mine) as oppossed to a screen. No nice toiletries I'm afraid, or even a box of tissues, just a plastic soap dispenser attached to the wall by the sink and one on the wall by the shower. I feel this is a bit of a shame as the room itself was really nice, ood wardrobe space, flat screen tv, nice decor and the decking area outside leading to the swim up area is superb. I think if a little more attention to detail was spent on the bathroom area, it would put the hotel up a league. However, don't let this make it a deal breaker, its just a thing if mine, and I will say the whole room and decking area was kept spotlessly clean by the excellent cleaners for the whole stay.
The swim-up rooms are in a section of their own, the decked area is lovely as you can have privacy behind a screen between rooms if you wish, or you can sit nearer the pool if you want to speak to your neighbours. There are good quality loungers and table and chairs so no problem with grabbing sun loungers. The view from out room was superb, overlooking the gardens, main pool and beach. The hotel location itself is probably its main selling point, the beach is just lovely, and we spent a lot of time there. The ' children' ranged from 22 down to 13, and I was worried they would be bored, but far from it, there is a place on the beach to hire various things like pedaloes, canoes etc, so they made great use of that. They made a lot of friends as well, so we hardly saw them (bonus! ) As many reviews have mentioned the food is plentiful and excellent, the staff are lovely, and all in all we had a really good time. We weren't bothered about the entertainment, as we were happy to sit in the bar area and play cards etc. However, we did go the Beach party one night, which was great fun, and we were even dragged up to play their version of Mr and Mrs ( we came 2nd......... out of 3 ! )The acid test is - would we return ?
Other reviews have mentioned the sewage type smell, so its only fair I point out that it is there, but its not constant, but intermittent, and smells like over boiled cabbage more than anything. It would be nice if this could be sorted out though, as the hotel grounds are so pretty it is a bit of a shame.
For a family holiday, I would, but not as a couple, mainly because I prefer more adult themed hotels when its just the 2 of us.
Hope this helps for anyone who is considering a trip to the LTI.
