My family has been visiting Brier Island Lodge a couple times a year for about 3 years now - we love the trip down because you get to see farms and trees and windmills and the ocean (Bay of Fundy) The relaxed pace of everything is very welcoming after a busy week too.

The rooms are always clean and tidy - the matrasses are firm and comfortable and the beds don't roll and squeak like in some places I've stayed. The hot coffee and tea in the lounge all day is appreciated and there is plenty to do even if you decide not to go whale watching. There are trails to walk - we like to visit Northern and Western light's (lighthouses) and walk around and take pictures and see what has washed up in the little tide pools. Our son likes to bring home interesting rocks he has found.

We always go out on the Whale Watch boat and have been lucky enough to get right along side of some breathtaking whales - we've also had some lovely 2 hour cruises just watching the waves and birds and the coastline go by when the whales have been hiding. These cruises are just as nice I think.

Dinner in the dining-room is always a treat after a day of seeing the sights. For such a tiny kitchen, they really do put out a fantastic assortment of great maritime favourites - and the desserts - don't get me started about the brownies and ice cream..... YUM!

We bought the whale watching package at Brier Island Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend staying the night (we live in Dartmouth which is about 4 hours each way). We left home early so we could enjoy exploring some of the island before our whale watching tour. Be prepared, only the cafe in town is open for lunch, not the restaurant at the Lodge. We came prepared with our own picnic lunch. Our room was much nicer than I expected based on the photos on the website. We had a pet friendly room so ground floor with a lovely view of the water (and the sheep, which drove our dog crazy). The staff were super friendly and accomodating. The food was very good but a bit pricey. The breakfast was fine ( I am not a breakfast person) and the box lunch was done up very nicely in scallop bags. Cute! Whale watching was wonderful, saw lots of whales. Wished we could have stayed two nights.

The lodge has very basic accommodations, but the location at the entrance to the Bay of Fundy is like no other. We enjoyed the hiking and the whale watching tour. The landscape is stark and beautiful. The staff at the lodge were genuine and friendly. The food was very average and acceptable...but you don't go there for the food. All in all, a good experience for two nights.

As the other reviews have said, accommodation is basic but ok, didn't personally like the smell of cheap disinfectant and bathroom could have been cleaner. We didn't take the food included package, would strongly recommend taking ferry over to lavena's (by the chalet on long island side) where food and atmosphere were great for dinner. Whale watching - they set our expectations really high, by saying the day we arrived that there were hundreds of whales and the boats had been getting really close. We did see a mother and calf, from a bit of a distance, and that was all, so felt a bit disappointed though obviously no one can predict what will happen on any one trip. Felt the boat was a bit cramped, the one that went from the wharf before ours was more spacious and had a commentary, after the safety talk we heard nothing. Overall, the island is gorgeous, and the walk to sea cove from behind the lodge was well worth doing....though we didn't see any seals! We are still looking for the ultimate whale watching experience.

We had such great time at the Brier Island Lodge. The only thing we had to do was relax and Ray and his team have a great location to do so. Our room was lovely. We had the Queen bed with the Jacuzzi tub and enjoyed the room with the million dollar view. Rain; no problem; they provided games and even had a talent night with the staff providing the music. Their staff on the whale watch were friendly and knowledgeable. We met Kassidy last year when she said she hoped to be a tour guide on the whale watch. It was great to see her at such a young age excel in her endeavour. She really cares for these mammals and there were so many to see this year. The whales breached in the distance and we were so close to them; the crew were amazing.
We enjoyed our fabulous meals and all of the staff. From the check-in to our wait staff and room staff we were always made to feel welcome and valued guests.
The trip to the island with the short ferry rides and scenery was half the experience. There are small shops to visit and trails along the shore to walk and explore. Thank you Brier Island Lodge for a wonderful mini-vacation.

Room Tip: Water view with a jacuzzi is worth the extra.

I recently stayed at the Brier Island Lodge for a little weekend photography trip to Brier Island. The staff was excellent, the food was tasty, and the rooms were much more than I expected from such a small community. I guess the best way I can summarize it is that it's a hotel with a B&B attitude.

During my stay I also went on two whale watching tours with Welcome Aboard (which the hotel arranges). The tours were EXCELLENT with just the right amount of information and the right amount of quiet to take in the dolphins and humpback whales. Amazing!

Room Tip: Rooms near the restaurant (I think the budget rooms) have pretty thin walls. Expect a little noise...

Wonderful motel. Clean rooms, restaurant on property for breakfast and dinner only....no lunches...you can purchase a boxed lunch. Very quiet and peaceful. Book in advance....they are popular and book quickly. No room service, pool etc. just a lovely, quaint, small town motel.
