“could not have been any better!!”
Reviewed December 30, 2008

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott pre-cruise in January. I have read the other reviews before we went to San Juan. When we pulled up to the hotel via taxi I was so surprised! Nice fountain and beautiful hotel! The beach is wonderful! Beautiful palm tree's, nice hammocks to lounge in and wonderful pool area. We arrived in the afternoon and our rooms were already ready. We were again surprised that we were offered some coupons for the bar for a free drink. That was so nice. We didn't have oceanfront rooms but were again shocked to find out we did have ocean views! Our views were from the sides but still nice! We had a really clean and comfortable room. The room was large with a nice size deck. All the rooms will have a deck. We were on a higher floor room which was nice. We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed longer. You could easily stay right here for a week or longer! The outdoor restaurant was very nice. We didn't eat there but menu looked good. We ate at the buffet and that was good. Salsa night club was fun with people dancing and good drinks. We went into Casino for a few mintutes & my husband did win! Fun! Cute little gift shop and little cafe also on the main floor. The next day we ate at the cafe and brought our food outside by the pool. The bar opened up at 10:30 and we had our first Pina Colada. So good. Very nice pool area. The beach was wonderful and we had fun in the large waves that were splashing up that monring. I would stay here again without hesitation. Wonderful stay. The only negative is that we only were able to stay one night. We had fun on the cruise but would like to return to the Courtyard Marriott Resort. I agree with a previous review that the website pics don't do the resort justice. Oh...you do here the planes but I found it fun as you are on a tropical island!! If you stay at a smaller island anyplace on the island you can hear the planes!!

We booked this hotel through Expedia using their hotel/air combination. What a great deal. The pictures on the website do not do it justice -- you really have to see the place.

From the time our cab pulled up in front - it was a delightful experience. The bellman was friendly and we never touched out bags until they were up in our room.

Expedia said we had an ocean view room but when we arrived, we didn't. The hotel gave us a free immediate upgrade to an ocean view room and also to a higher floor for a better view. Our balcony faced the ocean from a side view and it was great!

The airport is very close, so if you don't like the sound of airplanes taking off and landing, don't stay here. For us, it was music to our ears and enhanced the excitement of being away.

This beachfront hotel is the nicest we have stayed in bar NONE!

Hammocks, beautiful pool, hottub, sandy beach and the ocean - who could ask for more?

Several nice restaurants inside the hotel. Seating outside for a beach breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Staff welcomed us with open arms.

Nice and close to the pier. They arranged for a van to take us to the pier and it was ready outside in the morning at a specific agreed-upon time.

I would recommend this hotel to families and couples. Very romantic and a lot of fun!

  • Liked — The beautiful landscaping and oceanfront accommodations. Right on the beach but near airport and pier.
  • Disliked — Air traffic noise. But when I say "like least" it wasn't a big deal to us.

We stayed at the Courtyard Isla Verde from 11/14-11/17 as a weekend getaway to celebrate my 40th birthday. I must say that the staff at the Courtyard went out of their way to help me celebrate, I was given an upgrade to an oceanfront suite and was surprised to find a fruit and cheese tray sent to me by the General Manager. The room was immaculate, the staff was so friendly and the grounds of the hotel were nice. We enjoyed dancing the night away (salsa) and the beach was beautiful. I played at the casino and Won! It was a great weekend. I would defenitely recommend this hotel to anyone. We enjoyed our short trip and plan to return for a longer period and will surely stay at the Courtyard Marriot Isla Verde.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel October 24-27. No problems checking in. We arrived at 2:45 and there were 4 people ahead of us. We were in our room by 3. Our room was very nice, large with a partial oceanview. We did, however, hear the airplanes in our room. Not a big deal, I could have been at work instead.

The beach was beautiful and we didn't experience any problems wih sand fleas. We ate several meals at the hotel and the food was delicious. We also walked to Dennys for breakfast one morning, about a 15 min walk from the hotel. A Walgreens is in the same shopping center as Dennys.

The staff at this hotel is the best! If you stay there, look for Pedro at the bell stand. He was very helpful with information on Old San Juan and made several recommendations. Also, the manager of Salsa (can't remember his name) does a great job.

The only negative is the resort fee. Many hotels in San Juan charge some type of fee so this is not exclusive to the Courtyard. But we thought it was ridiculous that guests had to rent beach chairs ($6 each per day). The chairs should be an included amenity if a resort fee is charged. Or allow guests to pay for the services they actually use (chairs,gym, internet, etc) instead of paying a resort fee.

All in all, we had a great stay.

My wife and I stayed here for a quick getaway 11/15 - 11/18.

Check In:
Check in was smooth, the welcome drink was a nice touch. When we arrived our room was not ready so we took a walk to the grocery store (15 minute walk)...I think it was called Pueblo. We bought supplies for the next few days snacks, bread, sandwich meats, beer, rum etc.

Room:
We had an ocean view room on the opposite side from the airport. The view was so-so but we don't spend much time in the room so we didn't mind. We went to the beach instead where the view was just fine.

Hotel/Lobby/Grounds:
The pool was very nice but we spent our time on the beach. We rented chairs ($6 per day)..drink prices we high so we made our own in our mugs and brought them to the beach. The hot tub was luke warm one day and scalding hot the next so we didn't get to use it. Casino was nice, entertainment in the lobby was lively. We don't do the salsa but those that do were fun to watch.

Meals:
For breakfast we are "bagel and coffee" people so that's all we did...got our bagel and coffee at banana's. Lunch we did on our own..brought our own sandwiches and snacks to the beach. We did dinner one night at Chili's and the next two nights in Old San Juan (Dragon Fly & Parrot Club) both were excellent.

Taxi:
Taxis are expensive. A taxi into Old San Juan is $21 + tip each way. The bus is free. We did the bus. Walk out of the hotel, go left, and wait at the bus stop in front of Denny's. Take the A5 or the C53 into Old San Juan. The last bus out of Old San Juan is at 9:00pm so if you are late you will need to take a cab. Also, leaving the hotel a taxi will cost $12.50 + tip to take you one mile to the airport. The bus is free...you do the math.

Car rental:
I would not rent a car unless I needed it for a certain day. Parking in Old San Juan is very difficult and it costs $15 per day to park in the hotel. We went to the rain forest one day and rented a car just for the day from Charlie (15 min walk)

San Fleas:
They a little bit of a problem in the early morning or late evening but non-existent during the day. We brought bug spray but never used it.

Airplane noise
Airplanes makes noise. The hotel is next to the airport. This was not a problem for us. Every plane I heard was a plane that I was not on. I was on a beach. no problem.

Summary:
Great place to stay. We'd do it again.

I have sent 3 requests for information from this hotel over a 2 week period. (We have a wedding party staying in San Juan) No response from reservations, or the information email addresses. Based on this experience, if you want to stay at this hotel, book it. If you need information before booking, don't waste your time waiting for a response.

Pros:
* Nice and helpful staff

* Plenty of food options

* Casino

* Concerige is great

Cons:
* Rooms have carpet that get wet and full of sand and sand fleas that bite you all day / night (I suggest they remove the carpet like most resorts with pool / beach access)

* The beach is nice but filled with sand fleas (they offer a free bug spray that doesn't work

* The front desk is too slow. They either need more people for a streamlined process for check-in. It took me ~15 mins to check-in. Way too long

* For the price, there are nicer places on the same street (namely the Ritz Carlton)

* Food isn't that good in Picante (burger was bland) or Salsa (all food was tasteless)

* Pool was kinda gross. Needs updating. The hot tub is very small and because of the way the jets are setup it throws sand at you

  • Liked — Nice staff
  • Disliked — Sand fleas and wet carpet

We appreciate your taking the time to write this review and let us know the areas you feel need improvement. We apologize for any inconveniences during your trip. One thing we cannot control though are the sand fleas which is why we give our guests spray to protect them.
