We stayed at the Courtyard Isla Verde from 11/14-11/17 as a weekend getaway to celebrate my 40th birthday. I must say that the staff at the Courtyard went out of their way to help me celebrate, I was given an upgrade to an oceanfront suite and was surprised to find a fruit and cheese tray sent to me by the General Manager. The room was immaculate, the staff was so friendly and the grounds of the hotel were nice. We enjoyed dancing the night away (salsa) and the beach was beautiful. I played at the casino and Won! It was a great weekend. I would defenitely recommend this hotel to anyone. We enjoyed our short trip and plan to return for a longer period and will surely stay at the Courtyard Marriot Isla Verde.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel October 24-27. No problems checking in. We arrived at 2:45 and there were 4 people ahead of us. We were in our room by 3. Our room was very nice, large with a partial oceanview. We did, however, hear the airplanes in our room. Not a big deal, I could have been at work instead.

The beach was beautiful and we didn't experience any problems wih sand fleas. We ate several meals at the hotel and the food was delicious. We also walked to Dennys for breakfast one morning, about a 15 min walk from the hotel. A Walgreens is in the same shopping center as Dennys.

The staff at this hotel is the best! If you stay there, look for Pedro at the bell stand. He was very helpful with information on Old San Juan and made several recommendations. Also, the manager of Salsa (can't remember his name) does a great job.

The only negative is the resort fee. Many hotels in San Juan charge some type of fee so this is not exclusive to the Courtyard. But we thought it was ridiculous that guests had to rent beach chairs ($6 each per day). The chairs should be an included amenity if a resort fee is charged. Or allow guests to pay for the services they actually use (chairs,gym, internet, etc) instead of paying a resort fee.

All in all, we had a great stay.

My wife and I stayed here for a quick getaway 11/15 - 11/18.

Check In:
Check in was smooth, the welcome drink was a nice touch. When we arrived our room was not ready so we took a walk to the grocery store (15 minute walk)...I think it was called Pueblo. We bought supplies for the next few days snacks, bread, sandwich meats, beer, rum etc.

Room:
We had an ocean view room on the opposite side from the airport. The view was so-so but we don't spend much time in the room so we didn't mind. We went to the beach instead where the view was just fine.

Hotel/Lobby/Grounds:
The pool was very nice but we spent our time on the beach. We rented chairs ($6 per day)..drink prices we high so we made our own in our mugs and brought them to the beach. The hot tub was luke warm one day and scalding hot the next so we didn't get to use it. Casino was nice, entertainment in the lobby was lively. We don't do the salsa but those that do were fun to watch.

Meals:
For breakfast we are "bagel and coffee" people so that's all we did...got our bagel and coffee at banana's. Lunch we did on our own..brought our own sandwiches and snacks to the beach. We did dinner one night at Chili's and the next two nights in Old San Juan (Dragon Fly & Parrot Club) both were excellent.

Taxi:
Taxis are expensive. A taxi into Old San Juan is $21 + tip each way. The bus is free. We did the bus. Walk out of the hotel, go left, and wait at the bus stop in front of Denny's. Take the A5 or the C53 into Old San Juan. The last bus out of Old San Juan is at 9:00pm so if you are late you will need to take a cab. Also, leaving the hotel a taxi will cost $12.50 + tip to take you one mile to the airport. The bus is free...you do the math.

Car rental:
I would not rent a car unless I needed it for a certain day. Parking in Old San Juan is very difficult and it costs $15 per day to park in the hotel. We went to the rain forest one day and rented a car just for the day from Charlie (15 min walk)

San Fleas:
They a little bit of a problem in the early morning or late evening but non-existent during the day. We brought bug spray but never used it.

Airplane noise
Airplanes makes noise. The hotel is next to the airport. This was not a problem for us. Every plane I heard was a plane that I was not on. I was on a beach. no problem.

Summary:
Great place to stay. We'd do it again.

I have sent 3 requests for information from this hotel over a 2 week period. (We have a wedding party staying in San Juan) No response from reservations, or the information email addresses. Based on this experience, if you want to stay at this hotel, book it. If you need information before booking, don't waste your time waiting for a response.

Pros:
* Nice and helpful staff

* Plenty of food options

* Casino

* Concerige is great

Cons:
* Rooms have carpet that get wet and full of sand and sand fleas that bite you all day / night (I suggest they remove the carpet like most resorts with pool / beach access)

* The beach is nice but filled with sand fleas (they offer a free bug spray that doesn't work

* The front desk is too slow. They either need more people for a streamlined process for check-in. It took me ~15 mins to check-in. Way too long

* For the price, there are nicer places on the same street (namely the Ritz Carlton)

* Food isn't that good in Picante (burger was bland) or Salsa (all food was tasteless)

* Pool was kinda gross. Needs updating. The hot tub is very small and because of the way the jets are setup it throws sand at you

We appreciate your taking the time to write this review and let us know the areas you feel need improvement. We apologize for any inconveniences during your trip. One thing we cannot control though are the sand fleas which is why we give our guests spray to protect them.

I returned from my trip to PR about a week ago. Overall the hotel was not bad. The hotel room was nice, but our bathroom was disgusting. The was something on the shower curtain that we thought could be 1 of 2 things. And the coffee pot was in the bathroom??? They gave us a free upgrade and the view was nice except the people in the next building could see right in and the curtains were VERY sheer. Beware that if you go through Rriceline or any other travel site, there ARE hidden charges. We had to pay around 12.00 extra a day in hotel fees and 15.00 a day just to park there! The price of the food was very high, but excellent. To eat at Sirena at the hotel, with tip it was 120.00, Salsa was about 50.00 and for breakfast at Bananas, about 20.00. By the way, you never get free refills. You get 3 sodas, you pay for 3 sodas (at 3.00 each!) Eat a Old San Juan 10 min away, you can get amazing food for half the price. Everyone was friendly however service is VERY slow, but the whole island is that way. A very nice gentleman at the hotel booked us a catamaran trip by Castillos Tours to Icacos island and it was well worth the 89.00 a person. We stayed 4 nights and that was enough. Anything longer than that, you can stay at a nicer hotel just down the way on the same beach. By the way, it is dead there during the week, but the hotel was buzzing on Friday night. Recommend going during the week. Hope this was helpful!

Our stay at the Courtyard was GREAT!!!!!! I had read so many reviews and was a little nervous about our stay but was pleasently surprised. The view was excellent of the beach from our room.

We rented a car for the week and was glad we did. We went out for breakfast several mornings so the car came in handy. There is a Denny's a mile or so down the road.

The staff was very helpful and nice to talk to if you needed anything.

We would stay here again if we went back to Puerto Rico!!!
