“On the beach in San Juan”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

This is what I'd call a casual resort. It's very close to the airport ( could actually see the airport from our balcony). This was not a problem. It's quiet in the room and never a problem on the beach. The beach is beautiful!!! There's a small casino and several restaurants in the resort. There's a lovely pool (with swim-up bar) and a gym (didn't use it). The room was comfortable and we had a nice view of the beautiful beach from our balcony. Each morning one of us went downstairs and picked up a light breakfast which we enjoyed on the balcony.
Probably the only negative is that there isn't alot within walking distance. We did walk to a couple of restaurants and the Ritz Carlton is a short walk away. Most restaurants and all shopping is a (expensive) cab ride away. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

we booked two rooms for four people with partial sea view ,with a request for twins with a good view of the beach and in a quite level ,i phone the hotel three months before to check if we could have the twin rooms and was told to phone back at later date which i did and was told that they had the request and if twin rooms where available we may have them. when we arrived at the hotel we given twin rooms one on the second floor for my sister and her friend on the first night their was a party in the next room so they got no sleep and they where told the guest where checking out that day , we had a room fourth floor which looked over the dust bins with a small gap at the side to the sea which was a terrible view ,so i went back to reception and asked could we have better room and was told the normal reply the hotel was full . so asked to speak to a manager and was told that she was not available and i would have to wait about half hour .so i sat down and spoke to one of the hotel staff and was told that the lady at the next desk was the assistant manager so i walk over and after a few words we got offered a suite on the fourth floor for an extra $50 plus taxes which for the two nights came to just over $128 and the room was very good except the television in the lounge and the the air con unit where faulty and where changed and repaired the next day . we had some meals at the hotel but i would not use again because of food quality and costs. (also be aware of all the extra taxes they charge)

Room Tip: go high and have a corner room or suite

I had the pleasure of eating at Sirena Restaurant at the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde. My wife invited me for dinner to celebrate my birthday. The experience was truly amazing we had a bottle of wine with Ceviche for appetizer and our main course was the sea bass and dessert cheese cake de dulce de leche. Lyzmar Cordero was our waitress and the manager was Sonia Gonzalez, we were treaty like a King and a Queen. The ambiance was great in front of the ocean listening to the waves breaking on the beach and the summer breeze blowing on our table. I would highly recommend this property and restaurant afterward we continued to the lobby bar Picante to dance to the Salsa music and have a few mojitos into the wee hours of the night there we were greeted by supervisor Jose Sterling who immediately found us a table during a very busy night. The staff is very serves oriented and extremely friendly if you haven’t had the pleasure of coming to Puerto Rico this is definitely the place to be.

This hotel is in a beautiful spot, beachfront. Ask for a floor up high, down near the lobby becomes noisy due to live bands that play salsa music, much fun to watch people dancing. The casino is ok, we're not much into that. The restaurants are good. Be careful signing everything to your room. The fees add up VERY QUICKLY!!!!! Pay cash to avoid those fees, there is an ATM on the premises. The staff was very accommodating, all beach towels, lounge chairs, umbrellas, etc. is provided for. We stayed there for 3 nights while stranded due to a snowstorm, it really was a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms in the upper stories should be quieter and avoid the music from the bands.

The bathrooms in the rooms were OK - not up to par with the rest of the resort but everything else about the resort is good. 4 restaurants inside the resort, 3 pools, nice beach, fresh water shower (once you come from the beach) makes it easier when you have 2 young kids like us. Staff - starting from the front desk to the waiters were nice. Food was delayed couple times but this was somewhat expected considering it was a long presidents day weekend and there was a crowd. Food selection across the 4 restaurants was good ... We liked Papaya grill more than others. Sirena serving drinks near the beach was great as well ... The hotel staff arrange chairs/umbrellas wherever you select a place on the beach ... Food from the grill was delivered right to the beach.

Overall, it was a great place and well worth the money. The place is little distance from a strip of restaurants outside (.5 miles I think) but safe to walk in the nice weather.

Room Tip: Except for road facing rooms, remaining all 3 sides will be ok.

Overall, we really enjoyed this resort. The rooms were ok, nothing fancy. They are pretty outdated, but it didn't bother us for the price. We requested a higher floor/ocean view from some of the comments on here about airport noise. The ocean views were sold out, but we did get a room on the 11th floor. I am a pretty light sleeper and really did not hear much from the airport. If anything, we heard more from the traffic. The bed was very comfortable. The employees were very friendly. I was somewhat disappointed with one concierge (did not get her name) who was pretty clueless about places to go and did not make our reservation (which did not end up being an issue, but still). Other than that, there were always hotel employees around to help. The beach was very nice and it was great to have our stuff set up each day. It did get very crowded, but I guess that is expected during this time of season. The pool was nice as well. My only complaint about that would be there are 2 sections that are geared towards children. (This is not posted, but one is a kid's pool and the other is 3 or 4 feet so that's what you would assume). However, unsupervised children were continuously on the deeper end doing cannon balls, screaming, etc. Kind of annoying when you are trying to relax!! The food at the outdoor grill was good and the prices are reasonable. We ate lunch there everyday and had breakfast at the place in the lobby. That was definitely a good option because I think we spent around $6 for breakfast daily. Overall, this was a great stay. I had done quite a bit of research and for the price, I think we made a good choice. Yes, there is a resort fee added daily to your bill but I think that this still ended up being cheaper than many other places we looked at.

Room Tip: Higher floor. I wish we would have had an ocean view....

This place is a winner! Great stay from start to finish! The combination of friendly and helpful personnel and location make this one to place on the “come back again” list. Bell hop staff provided a friendly welcome. Not to be outdone, check-in staff put on the charm, too.

The Courtyard Isla Verde is well very well kept. Nothing was out of place. Several dining options, free wi-fi in the lobby, business center with internet and printing access, and Casino if you really want that, too.

The outdoor areas of the Courtyard make the hotel shine. And it doesn’t hurt that the hotel is on Isla Verde beach which is spectacular. Outside there is the option to dine on a terrace, relax in a well designed and very comfortable outdoor deck, lounge at the pool, play table tennis, jump in the hot tub, or eat at the pool grill.

It would be easy to just lounge around on the outdoor furniture all day reading a book or gazing off in the distance. People were doing just that! The hammocks in the pictures are as advertised and very comfortable which is another practical way to laze away the day. Easy to spot the surfers up the beach while reclining!

Oh! Swim up bar, too, if that suits your fancy. One dedicated kid’s pool with mini-slide and another not-so deep area good for kids flank the main pool. Pools appears to be heated. Too lazy/relaxed to get up and get your order from the pool side grill? Raise the red SOS flag on your lounge chair for service. How easy is that?! The beach side areas are pleasantly lit at night. Come back down later and sit and relax some more!

The hotel room was comfortable and the adjustable shower head actually provided either a spray or a focused massage stream! Wonder of wonders! I’m not a big fan of the long integrated desk/entertainment center with pull out table. It sits too high for comfortable laptop work. But are you really at the resort to pound away at the keys?

Mini-fridge was stocked with two waters. Nice touch! There was a DVD player in case you were bringing your own entertainment.

I think that it is a plus that the hotel is so close to the airport. Easy to get off the plane and get to the beach! The balcony door was actually a double door! I didn’t hear any plane noise! The balcony in 306 had a partial view, but certainly acceptable for star or moon gazing.

Good eating is within walking distance (Metropol, Platos)!

Isla Verde beach is very nice and the Courtyard is smack dab on it. Could not ask for a better location. The fact that the hotel is both well maintained and well appointed, and that it has a very friendly and efficient staff make this a winner! I will be back…not to work…only to professionally relax!
